SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Ahwahnee 2 has two doors and a peak center height of 2' 4, which is 21 inches smaller than the average height of the 240 other 2 person tents we have examined With 33 square feet of room inside, it is a tiny bit smaller than some other 2-person tents, and it could be a little tight for you and, another camper throughout the 4-seasons, this tent is recommended for use in, smaller tents similar to this one generally make an excellent choice for people who appreciate spending plenty of time outside the tent exploring.

A few of the cool points about dome tents are, that they are generally speaking not too heavy, making them simple to carry around. In most all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In good weather, you can do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are easily the most commonly seen of all the different sorts of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in the rain than other types, allowing rain to roll off the sloped sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, allowing the rain to pool on the top. The most basic dome tent should have a square footprint, sloped walls a couple of poles which cross in the center of the roof. Because of the way they are made, it is usually thought of that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Down below, you can check out a list of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Ahwahnee can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Gives you a place to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is good to see Black Diamond has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your gear.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is easier to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.

CONS

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 33 square feet, the Ahwahnee 2 is smaller than quite a few of the 251 other 2 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 21% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some campers.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, The floor may be made of ToddTex but it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  4. Out of Stock. Unfortunately this particular tent is not currently in stock. It is still on the manufactures website the last time we looked.
  5. A little heavy for backpacking. Even though the Ahwahnee 2, looks like a small tent, it is not probably the best choice for backpacking as it weighs 6 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  6. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of qualities to be positive about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.3 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.3 STARS

Black Diamond's Ahwahnee 2 tent is perfect for base camp and expeditions. There are a few other things not already mentioned above which, were noticed and liked, while researching the model: The Ahwahnee is both waterproof and breathable, Minimal noise in windy environments and Two full side doors and internal mesh doors with wide awnings for rain protection while venting.

With great ratings, and a peak height of 2' and 33 square feet of space for sleeping, this tent is like your very own modest studio. It will allow you to enjoy some delightful time camping. We found a decent amount of positive points about the tent that you can read through above.

If you came to this page looking for suggestions about this actual tent, our view is, it will make for a great purchase. If you just happened to arrive on this page while browsing for a new tent having not heard of this manufacture or this model before, it is probably a good thing to check out some other comparable tents.

Value for money: In so much as value for your dollar, this tent is undoubtedly more expensive than the average price of all the two hundred and fourty, two-person tents we have looked at, this just by itself is not a negative thing. We also need to look at other factors in-depth, as we do for each tent.

When we tally up the score of a single tent, we reflect upon loads of data points, finding areas where the tent could outshine other very similar tents and where it is lacking. On this occasion, with a total rating of 4.3 and the price details above, one can view that with a ticket price of $999.95 Black Diamond's Ahwahnee 2 is a fair deal though it could be perceived as quite expensive when set side by side with similar tents.

Its overall score shows that the build and size the tent gives you make it a worthy purchase for people wanting a tent that can last for plenty of years. It could make a decent choice for most people searching for a comfortable four-season dome tent to camp with, that should serve you well for years to come.
