Summary: Favorable Reviews

People who bought the tent noted: At under 4 pounds, this two-person tent is a mere 2 lbs per person backpacking tent. The pole design gives it excellent headroom. The "stargazing" feature is no gimmick, and it is a pure delight. The roll-up door is very convenient. They loved how the fly is already attached. Super easy to put up in a strong wind. The little gear pockets are awesome for a power bank and your phone on one side.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Campers who have used the tent mentioned: That the tent, after a night of rain in a partially covered area, was wet to the touch on the inside. The vestibule is not that big, and a 50-liter pack fills it up pretty good.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Horizon 2 has one door and a maximum center height of 3' 7, which is a little bit less than the average height of the 211 different 2 person tents we have examined With 28 square feet of room inside, it is a lot smaller than some other 2-person tents, and it would be quite tight for you and, another camper during the whole of the 3-seasons, this tent is approved for use in, smaller tents similar to this one generally make a very nice choice for campers who appreciate spending lots of time outside the tent exploring.

Some of the great points about dome tents are, that they are generally speaking lightweight, making them easy to carry around. In most all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In calm weather, you can do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are easily the most common of all the various types of tents you will find when camping. They tend to fair better in the rain than other types, allowing rain to roll off the slanted sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, resulting in the water pooling on the roof. The most basic dome tent will have a rectangular footprint, sloped walls two or more poles which converge in the middle of the roof. Due to their construction, it is typically thought of that they are best for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Horizon can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibule. Having one vestibule. Affords you a place to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is nice to see Kelty has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your stuff.
  4. Breathable. The Horizon's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the summer.
  5. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 0mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  6. If you are searching for this particular tent, you are in luck it has been discontinued on the manufactures website, but is still available elsewhere.
  7. Low price. It is a great deal for a 2 person dome tent that provides this much room. Not many tents available on the market give this level of quality for only $159.95

CONS

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 28 square feet, the Horizon 2 is smaller than quite a few of the 211 other 2 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 8% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some people.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, The floor may be made of 70-denier nylon but it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, more so on rough terrain.
  4. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of things to rave about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.2 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.2 STARS

Kelty's Horizon 2 tent is great for backpacking. There are a couple of other nice points not mentioned above which, we found and liked, while reviewing the model: Rainfly door has a dual-zipper vestibule that doubles as an awning when set up with trekking poles (poles not included), Compact carry cube makes packing easy and Tent body and fly construction make for a hybrid single-wall/double-wall design.

With good ratings, a decent amount of reviews and headroom of 3' and 28 square feet of space to play with, this tent is like your own miniature home away from home. This allows you to enjoy some delightful moments exploring the great outdoors. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can check out above.

If you found this website looking for suggestions about this actual tent, our view is, it would make for a great acquisition. In case you just happened to land on this website while browsing for a new tent having not heard of this manufacurer or this model before, it is perhaps a good idea to look at a few other comparable tents also.

Value for money: When contemplating value for your dollar, this tent is unquestionably more competitive than the usual price of all the two hundred and ninety-two, two-person tents we have looked at, this by itself does not make it awesome value for money. One should also take into account other areas in-depth, as we do for each tent.

When we measure the overall score of an individual tent, we examine a good deal of areas, searching for areas where the tent could outperform other similar tents and where it is lacking. On this occasion, with a total score of 4.2 and the price data above, we can view that with a cost of $159.95 The Horizon 2 is a decent bargain and astonishingly priced in comparison with comparable tents.

The ratings show that the quality and dimensions the tent gives you were not compromised to arrive at a price undoubtedly under the average price for similar tents. It is also worth noting it is marked down by 0% from the manufactures suggested price. It could make a very good choice for nearly all campers searching for a comfy three-season backpacking tent to go camping in, that should serve you well for years to come.
