Summary: Favorable Reviews

People who bought this tent said: This is an excellent tent for its price. The materials are moderate regarding durability. The neutral colors used made it more appealing. The tent poles are made of high-quality aluminum, which is perfect for 3 season use. It also provides a lot of mesh, which gives adequate ventilation. Fast fly set-up is also made and offers several interior mesh storage pockets.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Campers who used it said: This tent is not advisable for cold weather. Use it in warmer months only. In terms of durability, I rate it as moderate. Surprisingly, they did not give the official waterproofness rating for the fly. It would be better since they advertised it as best-in-class waterproofing. But still, a decent tent for its price.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Vasquez Peak 3 has two doors and a maximum center height of 4' 0, which is a little bit smaller than the average height of the 158 different 3 person tents we have examined With 36 square feet of space inside, it is a lot smaller than some other 3-person tents, and it would be quite cramped for you and, up to two other campers all through the 3-seasons, this tent is approved for use in, smaller tents like this one generally make a suitable choice for campers that appreciate spending loads of time outside their tent getting some air.

A few of the cool points about dome tents are, that they are under normal circumstances lightweight, making them simple to carry. In nearly all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In good weather, you could do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are the most commonly seen of all the different sorts of tents you will find when camping. They tend to do better in storms than other types, allowing rain to easily slide off the slanted sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, resulting in the rain pooling on the top. The most straightforward dome tent should have a square footprint, slanted walls two or more poles which converge in the center of the roof. Due to the way they are made, it is usually thought of that they are ideal for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Below you can find a list of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Vasquez Peak can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Offers you somewhere to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is good to see Mountainsmith has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your gear.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is easier to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 68D x 190t Poly F/R, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to tears and punctures. Also, the material has a 5000 mm waterproofing rating, which is very good for most circumstances.
  6. Includes FootPrint. It is not often we see a footprint included with the tent. It is strongly suggested to always use a footprint, so not having to buy one is a plus.
  7. Low price. It is a great buy for a 3 person dome tent providing this much space. Not many tents available on the market give this level of quality for only $299.95

CONS

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 36 square feet, the Vasquez Peak 3 is smaller than quite a lot of the 163 other 3 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Discontinued: Unfortunately this particular tent has been discontinued on the manufactures website and is no longer available elsewhere, that we know of.
  3. A tad heavy for backpacking. Even though the Vasquez Peak 3, looks like a small tent, it is not ideal for backpacking as it weighs 6 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  4. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have heaps of attributes to rave about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.5 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.5 STARS

Mountainsmith's Vasquez Peak 3 tent is great for backpacking. Here are a few other nice points not already mentioned above which, we noticed and liked, while reviewing the model: Clip-pole attachment for lighter weight and better breathability, Brow pole for increased interior headroom and steep sidewalls for more usable space and It has a constructed bathtub floor .

With great ratings, a decent amount of reviews and headroom of 4' and 36 square feet of space to play with, this tent is like your very own little apartment. This allows you to enjoy some delightful moments camping. We found a decent amount of positive points about the tent that you can read through above.

If you came to this website looking for recommendations about this specific tent, our view is, it will make for an excellent purchase. If you just happened to land on this website while looking for a new tent having never heard of this manufacture or this tent model previously, it is probably a good idea to check out a few other comparable tents.

Value for money: As far as value for your money, this tent is a lot more competitive than the average price of all the one hundred and fifty-eight, three-person tents we have taken a look at, this just by itself does not make it awesome value for money. We also need to take into account other factors in-depth, as we do for every tent.

When we measure the valuation of a single tent, we scrutinize plenty of areas, finding areas where the tent could exceed other very similar tents and where it is lacking. In this case, with an overall score of 4.5 and the price details above, we can spot that with a price point of $299.95 The Vasquez Peak 3 is a very good deal and fabulously cheap when compared with comparable tents.

The ratings show that the quality and capacity the tent offers were not skimped on to arrive at a price significantly below the normal price for similar tents. It should make an excellent choice for nearly all people looking for an appropriate three-season dome tent to go camping with, that will serve you well for years to come.
