Summary: Favorable Reviews

Campers who have reviewed the older Tasmanian 3 mentioned that: It is super fast to set up. This tent far exceeded my expectations and kept us dry at all times. Zippers are not snaggy in the least bit. The tent is extremely well made for the money. Used it in the winter down to -38

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Highlands 3 has two windows and two doors and a maximum center height of 4' 6, which is a little bit less than the average height of the 144 different 3 person tents we have studied. With 44 square feet of space inside, it is a tiny bit smaller than some other 3-person tents, and it could be a little tight for you and, up to two other campers during the whole of the 4-seasons, this tent is suggested for use in, smaller tents similar to this one make a really good choice for people who appreciate spending heaps of hours outside their tent getting some air.

A few of the great things about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part lightweight, making them easy to carry. In nearly all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In calm weather, you can do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are easily the most commonly seen of all the various types of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in bad weather than other types, allowing rain to easily slide off the sloped sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, resulting in the rain pooling on the top. The most straightforward dome tent will have a rectangular floor, slanted sides two or more poles which cross in the middle of the roof. Due to their construction, it is generally thought of that they are ideal for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Beneath you can browse a list of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Highlands can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Gives you a place to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is nice to see Alps Mountaineering adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is easier to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. More than one window. With 2 windows it is simple to keep the tent cool on a hot summers night.
  6. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 75D 185T poly taffeta, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to rips and punctures. Also, the material has a 3000 mm waterproofing rating, which is pretty good for most circumstances.
  7. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  8. Low price. It is a great deal for a 3 person dome tent providing this much space. Not many tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $349.99

CONS

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 44 square feet, the Highlands 3 is smaller than quite a few of the 149 other 3 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one sold separately designed for the Highlands 3 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 75D 185T poly taffeta, it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  3. A little heavy for backpacking. Even though the Highlands 3, looks like a small tent, it is not ideal for backpacking as it weighs 9 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  4. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of qualities to be positive about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.4 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.4 STARS

Alps Mountaineering's Highlands 3 tent is suitable for base camp and expeditions. Here are a few other nice points not already mentioned above which, were found and liked, while reviewing the model: It uses 7000 series aluminum poles (one continuous pole system with hubs that reach end to end, and an additional pole that goes across the tent to help stabilize in strong winds)., Two vestibules for gear storage and extra weather protection and All vents can be fully closed.

With wonderful ratings, a couple of reviews and a center height of 4' and 44 square feet of space to play with, this tent is like your very own miniature flat. This will allow you to spend some really enjoyable moments hanging out with nature. We found a decent amount of positive points about the tent that you can look at above.

If you came to this website looking for recommendations about this specific tent, we consider, it would make for a good buy. In case you simply happened to arrive on this website while browsing for a new tent having not heard of this brand or this model before, it is probably a good thing to look at some more similar tents also.

Value for money: When thinking about value for your dollar, this tent is unquestionably more competitive than the average price of all the one hundred and fourty-four, three-person tents we have studied, this alone by itself does not make it remarkable value for money. One should also take a look at other things in-depth, as we do for every tent.

When we determine the ratings of a single tent, we regard plenty of things, searching for points where the tent could excel against other comparable tents and where it is not quite as good. On this occasion, with a total score of 4.4 and the price info above, we can observe that with a price of $349.99 The Highlands 3 is a good deal and incredibly priced in comparison with comparable tents.

Its ratings show that the quality and space the tent gives you were not compromised to finish up with a price significantly under the usual price for comparable tents. It is also worth thinking about the fact that it is marked down by 0% from the manufactures suggested retail price. It will make an awesome choice for nearly all people looking for an adequate four-season dome tent to camp in, that should serve you well for years to come.
