Summary: Favorable Reviews

People who purchased the tent noted: It rained heavily 2 of the four days, and the tent held up perfectly, not a drop got through to the inside. The quality of the materials is superb, and it looks like it could hold its own against mild inclement weather. Great for night star gazing. Plenty of room in the storage bag - so you don't have to get it factory packed to fit it back in the bag. The vestibule was great for holding our muddy shoes and kept our tent cleaner.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Campers who bought the tent mentioned: It is too heavy to carry in a pack. They wished it came with more cordage to tie out the rain fly. It feels like the tent needs another door or window.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Outback 4 has one door and a maximum center height of 4' 11, which is a little bit smaller than the average height of the 134 other 4 person tents we have examined With 57 square feet of room inside, it is a lot smaller than some other 4-person tents, and it would be quite tight for you and, up to three other campers during the whole of the 3-seasons, this tent is approved for use in, smaller tents like this one generally make a very good choice for people who appreciate spending loads of time outside exploring the great outdoors.

Many of the fantastic points about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part lightweight, making them simple to carry. In nearly all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very simple to set up. In calm weather, you can do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are the most common of all the different types of tents you will see when camping. They tend to fair better in storms than other types, allowing rain to easily slide off the sloped walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, resulting in the rain pooling on the roof. The most basic dome tent will have a rectangular footprint, slanted walls a couple of poles which cross in the center of the roof. Due to the way they are made, it is usually considered that they are best for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Down below, you can see a list of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Outback can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibule. Having one vestibule. Gives you somewhere to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is good to see Kelty has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. Breathable. The Outback's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the summer.
  5. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1800mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  6. Plenty of Positive Reviews The Outback 4 has Tons of fantastic Reviews
  7. Awesome Ratings The Outback 4 has some of the best ratings of all the tents on optimumtents.com
  8. Available in other sizes. Kelty has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  9. Low price. It is a great purchase for a 4 person dome tent that provides this much space. Not many tents available on the market give this level of quality for only $149.95

CONS

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 57 square feet, the Outback 4 is smaller than quite a few of the 134 other 4 person tents we have looked at.
  2. No windows. With no windows it is not simple to keep the tent cool on a hot summers night.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one available separately designed for the Outback 4 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 68D Polyester, it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  4. A little heavy for backpacking. Even though the Outback 4, looks like a small tent, it is not probably the best choice for backpacking as it weighs 10 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  5. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have heaps of things to rave about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.7 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.7 STARS

Kelty's Outback 4 tent is ideal for bicycle & motorbike camping. Here are a couple of other points not mentioned above which, were noticed and liked, while researching the model: The easy-to-use attached guylines help stabilize the tent in windy conditions, Optimum comfort at an affordable price point, that's the Outback and Vestibule with two stake points and guyout storage pockets.

With very good ratings, plenty of reviews and a minimum headroom of 4' and 57 square feet of area to sleep, this tent is like your very own small home away from home. This will allow you together with 2 other campers to share some really enjoyable moments exploring the great outdoors. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can study above.

If you came to this website looking for recommendations about this specific tent, we think, it should make for an awesome acquisition. In case you just happened to land on this website while looking for a brand new tent having not heard of this manufacurer or this tent before, it is perhaps a good idea to check out a few other comparable tents also.

Value for money: When contemplating value for money, this tent is significantly more competitive than the standard price of all the one hundred and fifty-four, four-person tents we have studied, this itself does not make it awesome value for money. One should also think about other areas in detail, as we do with every tent.

When we calculate the valuation of a single tent, we look at a good deal of stuff, finding points where the tent could beat out other similar tents and where it is coming up short. On this occasion, with a total score of 4.7 and the price statistics above, one can view that with a cost of $149.95 Kelty's Outback 4 is an excellent bargain and astonishingly competitively priced in comparison with comparable tents.

Its overall score shows that the build and size the tent provides were not in any way compromised to obtain a price well under the standard price for comparable tents. It is also worth noting it is reduced by 0% from the manufactures suggested retail price. It should make an exceptional choice for most people looking for a comfy three-season dome tent to go camping with, that will serve you well for years to come.
