Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Campers who purchased the tent said: It took more time than expected to set up. It is a little heavy for backpacking. Additional stakes would be nice . Vestibule needs to be purchased separately for the 3 and 4 person model.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Bird Beak 1 SL has one door and a peak center height of 3' 5, which is a tiny bit less than the average height of the 68 other 1 person tents we have studied. With 18 square feet of space inside, it is significantly smaller than some other 1-person tents, and it would be quite tight for you during the whole of the 3-seasons, this tent is recommended for use in, smaller tents like this one are a really good choice for people who love spending heaps of hours outside of their tent exploring.

Many of the great things about dome tents are, that they are under normal circumstances lightweight, making them easy to carry. In nearly all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very easy to set up. In good weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are easily the most commonly seen of all the various types of tents you will see when camping. They tend to fair better in bad weather than other types, allowing water to roll off the slanted walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, resulting in the rain pooling on the top. The most straightforward dome tent will have a rectangular floor, sloped sides a couple of poles which converge in the middle of the roof. Because of the way they are made, it is generally thought of that they are best for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Down below, you can check out an account of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Bird Beak SL can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibule. Having one vestibule. Offers you somewhere to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is nice to see Big Agnes adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1200mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  5. Other sizes are available. Big Agnes has also made this model available in Other Sizes.

CONS

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 18 square feet, the Bird Beak 1 is smaller than quite a few of the 68 other 1 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one sold separately specifically for the Bird Beak 1 footprint Even though the floor may be made of Silicone-treated ripstop nylon, it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  3. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have many things to be positive about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.2 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.2 STARS

Big Agnes's Bird Beak 1 SL tent is really good for backpacking. There are a couple of other points not noted above which, we noticed and liked, while reviewing the model: Features exceptional living space for cot sleeping or those wanting more room than a traditional backpacking tent , Set up in shelter-mode without the inner tent body for maximum shelter volume and easy in/out access and Media pockets located above sleeping area enable clean earbud cord routing from phones or other devices.

With great ratings, a couple of reviews and a center height of 3' and 18 square feet of space to enjoy, this tent is like your own little home away from home. This will allow you to enjoy some real quality time in the outdoors. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can study above.

If you came to this page looking for suggestions on this particular tent, we think, it should make for a great purchase. If you just happened to arrive on this page while looking for a brand new tent having never heard of this manufacurer or this model previously, it is probably a good idea to check out some more comparable tents.

Value for money: When thinking about value for your money, this tent is a little bit more costlier than the average cost of all the one hundred and six, one-person tents we have looked at, this just by itself is not a negative thing. One should also look at other factors in-depth, as we do for every tent.

When we measure the ratings of a single tent, we scrutinize a good deal of conditions, looking for areas where the tent could shine against other near-identical tents and where it is lacking. On this occasion, with an overall rating of 4.2 and the price info above, It is simple to notice that with a cost of $379.95 Big Agnes's Bird Beak 1 SL is a great purchase the purchase price is not expensive when set side by side with similar tents.

The ratings show that the build and capacity, the tent offers make it a a good choicefor those searching for for a quality 1-person tent. It is also worth thinking about the fact that it is reduced by 0% from the manufactures MSRP. It should make a decent choice for most people looking for an adequate three-season backpacking tent to camp in, that will serve you well for years to come.
