Summary: Favorable Reviews

A camper who used this tent said: It basically survived the windy camping trip that I had. Not bad also when it comes to its space, and it keeps you dry during a cold night. You almost get what you paid for.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

People who bought this tent said: The vestibule flaps like crazy when encountered by a strong wind. Just make sure when this you be very careful if you have your gears inside. Heavy rain is just too much. It leaked badly. But overall, not bad for the price you paid.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The I 2 has one door and a maximum center height of 3' 6, which is a tiny bit less than the average height of the 240 other 2 person tents we have studied. With 27 square feet of room inside, it is significantly smaller than some other 2-person tents, and it would be quite tight for you and, another camper throughout the 4-seasons, this tent is suggested for use in, smaller tents similar to this one are an excellent choice for people that welcome spending lots of hours outside their tent getting some air.

Many of the fantastic points about dome tents are, that they are generally speaking lightweight, making them easy to carry around. In nearly all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very simple to set up. In calm weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are without a doubt the most common of all the other sorts of tents you will find when camping. They tend to do better in the rain than other types, allowing rain to roll off the slanted walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, resulting in the water pooling on the top. The most straightforward dome tent should have a rectangular footprint, slanted sides a couple of poles which converge in the center of the roof. Due to the way they are made, it is usually thought of that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Down below, you can see an account of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The I can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibule. Having one vestibule. Affords you somewhere to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is good to see Black Diamond adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. Includes FootPrint. It is quite rare to see a footprint included with a tent. It is suggested to always use a footprint, so not having to buy one is a plus.

CONS

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 27 square feet, the I 2 is smaller than quite a lot of the 251 other 2 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 7% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some campers.
  3. Discontinued: Unfortunately this particular tent has been discontinued on the manufactures website and is no longer available elsewhere, that we know of.
  4. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have heaps of qualities to be positive about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.3 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.3 STARS

Black Diamond's I 2 tent is great for mountaineering and backpacking. Here are a few other points not mentioned above which, we found and liked, while researching the model: ToddTex single-wall fabric - 100% seam taped, Hooded vent over the door and one at the bottom and Single door entry and optional vestibule for gear storage.

With great ratings, and a minimum headroom of 3' and 27 square feet of space to play with, this tent is like your own miniature home away from home. This allows you to enjoy some really enjoyable moments camping. We found a decent amount of positive points about the tent that you can study above.

If you came to this page looking for an endorsement about this specific tent, we think, it will make for a good purchase. In case you just happened to land on this website while browsing for a new tent having not heard of this manufacture or this model before, it is perhaps a good thing to check out a few more similar tents also.

Value for money: In so much as value for money, this tent is more pricier than the average cost of all the two hundred and fourty, two-person tents we have looked at, this alone is not a negative thing. One should also take a look at other areas in detail, as we do with each tent.

When we calculate the valuation of a single tent, we consider a lot of things, searching for things where the tent could excel against other very similar tents and where it is lacking. On this occasion, with an overall rating of 4.3 and the price knowledge above, we can observe that with a price of $599.95 Black Diamond's I 2 is a very good bargain even though it could be thought of as a little pricey when compared with comparable tents.

Its ratings show that the quality and capacity the tent gives you make it a great purchase for campers wanting a tent that will last for plenty of years. It could make an ok choice for nearly all people looking for a comfortable four-season backpacking tent to go camping in, that will serve you well for years to come.
