Tent Set Up

Summary: Favorable Reviews

Campers who purchased the tent mentioned: That it is very lightweight! It is a quality constructed tent, and the 4p version was a good fit for a 6' person and two dogs, one of which is a Great Dane, comfortably with room to spare. After purchased this tent for my weekend backpacking trips and I don't regret it one bit. It was straightforward to set up and has plenty of room inside for someone 6 foot 330lbs, along with his wife, and their gear. It packs well on top of a backpack, and the 6lbs of weight is not that heavy for short weekend trips. Well built and engineered. It comes with a great rain flap and is very robust in its build. The canopy that stores items overhead is useful. A perfect 3-season tent. Super easy to put together with one person in 3-5 minutes.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Campers who bought the tent noted: The interior space is enough for sleeping, but there's not much room for anything else besides your sleeping essentials. They also wished it had a vent in the fly. One reviewer mentioned that the gear loft is not included with the tent even though the description says so on Amazon. One of the pockets was not well sewn. The footprint that came with this tent needs to be fixed to the ground separately. If you hold it with the tent poles, it will be quite loose. Secondly, it would be better if the door was not vertical angled would be better.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Limelight 2 has two doors and a maximum center height of 3' 7, which is a little bit less than the average height of the 204 other 2 person tents we have studied. With 33 square feet of space inside, it is a little bit smaller than some other 2-person tents, and it could be a little cramped for you and, another camper during the 3-seasons, this tent is recommended for use in, smaller tents like this one generally make a nice choice for campers that appreciate spending heaps of time outside their tent getting some air.

A few of the cool points about dome tents are, that they are under normal circumstances lightweight, making them easy to carry around. In near all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very easy to set up. In calm weather, you can do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are easily the most commonly seen of all the other sorts of tents you will find when camping. They tend to do better in the rain than other types, allowing rain to easily slide off the sloped walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, resulting in the rain pooling on the roof. The most basic dome tent will have a square footprint, sloped sides two or more poles which cross in the middle of the roof. Because of their construction, it is usually thought of that they are ideal for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Below you can browse a list of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Limelight can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Affords you somewhere to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is nice to see Marmot has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your stuff.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is easier to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 68D 190T poly taffeta, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to tears and punctures. Also, the material has a 2000 mm waterproofing rating, which is very good for most circumstances.
  6. Includes FootPrint. It is not often we see a footprint included with a tent. It is suggested to always use a footprint, so not having to pay extra for one is a plus.
  7. Breathable. The Limelight's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the summer.
  8. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  9. Other sizes are available. Marmot has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  10. Low price. It is a great deal for a 2 person dome tent providing this much room. Not many tents available on the market give this level of quality for only $299

CONS

  1. Not spacious. With a floor area of 33 square feet, the Limelight 2 is smaller than quite a few of the 204 other 2 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 8% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative factor for some people.
  3. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have many qualities to be positive about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

Our Ratings: 5.0 STARS

Marmot's Limelight 2 tent is really good for backpacking. There are a few other things not noted above which, we noticed and liked, while reviewing the model: Super-sized double door and rear D-shaped door lead to two side vestibules to keep all your gear dry, Zone Pre-Bend Construction Creates Vertical Walls, More Roomy Sleeping Area and Greater Head Room and Lamp Shade Pocket Securely Holds Your Headlamp to Provide Ambient Light.

With very good ratings, a few reviews and a peak height of 3' and 33 square feet of space to play with, this tent is like your own modest studio. This will enable you to enjoy some delightful moments camping. We found a decent amount of positive points about the tent that you can look at above.

If you came to this page looking for recommendations on this actual tent, we think, it should make for an excellent purchase. If you simply happened to land on this page while browsing for a brand new tent having not heard of this brand or this model before, it is probably a good idea to check out some more comparable tents also.

Value for money: As far as value for your dollar, this tent is unquestionably cheaper than the standard price of all the two hundred and eighty-five, two-person tents we have looked at, this itself does not make it excellent value for money. One should also think about other areas in detail, as we do with each tent.

When we determine the overall score of a tent, we look at plenty of data points, looking for areas where the tent could beat other near-identical tents and where it is lacking. On this occasion, with an overall rating of 5.0 and the price conclusions above, we can recognize that with a ticket price of $299 Marmot's Limelight 2 is a fantastic deal and astonishingly cheap when compared with similar tents.

The overall score shows that the quality and capacity the tent provides were not in any way skimped on to get a price tag undoubtedly below the average price for comparable tents. It is also worth noting it is marked down by 0% from the manufactures MSRP. It will make an exceptional choice for nearly all campers searching for a comfy three-season backpacking tent to camp with, that will serve you well for years to come.
