Summary: Favorable Reviews

People who used this tent said: It surprisingly had enough headroom. Even a six-footer would fit inside without a problem. Never encountered any issues when I used it during steady or warm conditions. I enjoyed the open canopy feature. It is also ultra-lite, considering how vast and compact this tent is. It really passed my standards. Kudos to the team.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

People who bought the tent noted: It gets a little awkward when you set it up for the first time, especially when you are new to this thing. It is kind of a pain to velcro the poles inside the tent. There is also minor interior condensation during heavy rains. Most importantly, they should change the zipper design. The rainfly is constantly getting snagged in the zipper, which is frustrating during a storm. Well, not all tents are perfect, but there are better models out there. It would really depend on what you prioritize.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Skylight 2 has one window and one door and a maximum center height of 3' 6, which is a little bit smaller than the average height of the 240 other 2 person tents we have studied. With 37 square feet of room inside, it is a little bit larger than some other 2-person tents, and it should accommodate you and, another camper during the whole of the 3-seasons, this tent is recommended for use in, smaller tents similar to this one can make a superb choice for campers that prefer spending plenty of time outside of their tent exploring.

Some of the fantastic points about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part lightweight, making them simple to carry around. In most all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very simple to set up. In calm weather, you could do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are the most commonly seen of all the various types of tents you will find when camping. They tend to fair better in bad weather than other types, allowing rain to roll off the sloped walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, allowing the water to pool on the roof. The most straightforward dome tent will have a square footprint, slanted sides two or more poles which converge in the center of the roof. Due to their construction, it is typically thought of that they are best for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Underneath you can find a list of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Skylight can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibule. Having one vestibule. Gives you a place to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is good to see Black Diamond adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is Silicone-impregnated nylon ripstop, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to rips and punctures. Also, the material has a 2000 mm waterproofing rating, which is very good for most circumstances.
  5. Breathable. The Skylight's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the summer.
  6. Low price. It is a great purchase for a 2 person dome tent providing this much room. Not a lot of tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $399.95

CONS

  1. Lacking in Headroom. With 7% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some campers.
  2. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one sold separately specifically for the Skylight 2 footprint Even though the floor may be made of Silicone-impregnated nylon ripstop, it is still better to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  3. Discontinued: Unfortunately this particular tent has been discontinued on the manufactures site and is not available elsewhere, that we know of.
  4. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of things to rave about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

Our Ratings: 4.2 STARS

Black Diamond's Skylight 2 tent is ideal for backpacking. Here are a few other cool things not mentioned above which, were noticed and liked, while reviewing the model: Built with a hybrid single/double-wall construction,, A mesh inner wall for excellent ventilation and a panoramic view. and Internal DAC Featherlite tent poles offer a high strength-to-weight ratio and keep the tent quiet in gusty conditions..

With good ratings, a couple of reviews and headroom of 3' and 37 square feet of space for sleeping, this tent is like your very own small home away from home. This allows you to spend some real quality time exploring the great outdoors. We found more positive things than cons about the tent that you can study above.

In case you just happened to land on this page while looking for a new tent having not heard of this brand or this model previously, it is probably a good thing to check out a few more comparable tents also.

Value for money: In terms of value for your dollar, this tent is more competitive than the normal price of all the two hundred and fourty, two-person tents we have taken a look at, this by itself does not make it great value for money. One should also take into account other things in-depth, as we do with every tent.

When we determine the ratings of a single tent, we study a good deal of conditions, finding areas where the tent could excel against other near-identical tents and where it is not quite as good. In this case, with an overall rating of 4.2 and the price details above, we can observe that with a price of $399.95 Black Diamond's Skylight 2 is a decent deal and cheap in comparison with similar tents.
