Tent Set Up

Can be set up alone

Green Thumbs Up Logo

Summary: Favorable Reviews

A lot of space inside for both people and their gear. Most people can stand up inside with almost no problem. Keeps water out effectively during heavy rains. Windows are big, and may even be useful for stargazing.

Teal Thumbs Down Logo

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

If the windows are not closed properly, they leak. Sometimes the walls also leak water. Some parts of the tent develop tears and holes easily. Also heavy.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Desert Canyon 6 has three windows and one door and a peak center height of 7' 5, which is 13 inches more than the average height of the 110 different 6 person tents we have studied. With 100 square feet of room inside, it is a little bit smaller than some other 6-person tents, and it could be a little cramped for you and, up to five other campers during the 3-seasons, this tent is recommended for use in, larger tents similar to this one make an awesome choice for campers that appreciate having lots of room inside their tent for sleeping and hanging out.

One of the sweet One of the sweet things about cabin tents is, that the sides are near vertical creating a larger interior, this gives you much more headroom at the sides inside, making it feel much larger than a dome tent, in general the floor areas are quite large compared to other tents. In general cabin tents are used by people going on a camping trip in a car or a truck as they are quite heavy when compared to dome tents. That dose though make them better suited to cooler nights.

Underneath you can find an account of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Desert Canyon can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Lots of Headroom. With 13% more headroom than similar-sized tents, one can easily count this as a plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is good to see Eureka has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. Has awnings. The awnings shelter the walls of the tent.
  5. More than one window. With 3 openings it is easier to keep the tent cooler on a hot summers night.
  6. Breathable. The Desert Canyon's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the summer.
  7. Other sizes are available. Eureka has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  8. Low price. It is a great buy for a 6 person cabin tent that provides this much room. Not many tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $349.95

CONS

  1. Sensitive to wind. Because of its size and shape, the Desert Canyon may not do well in strong winds if it is not firmly secured with the provided guy lines and stakes. Even though the tent is listed as freestanding in all but very calm conditions, one would need to stake and tie it down correctly.
  2. Not roomy. With a floor area of 100 square feet, the Desert Canyon 6 is smaller than quite a lot of the 110 other 6 person tents we have looked at.
  3. Only one room. The Desert Canyon is suggested for 6 campers, many other tents of a similar size have more than one room allowing for a little more privacy.
  4. No Vestibules. If you want to keep your dirty shoes, clothes, and backpacks protected from the rain etc, you will have to store them inside the tent.
  5. Rainfly does not totally cover the tent. The rainfly only covers the ceiling and part of the tent body from the top. Meaning it may not protect against heavy downpours.
  6. Uses Fiberglass poles. Even though the poles are comprised of fiberglass & steel. Using even some fiberglass with a big tent like the Desert Canyon 6 could possibly lead to problems, if there were to be extreemly windy conditions.
  7. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, The floor may be made of 75D 185T Polyester taffeta but it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  8. Out of Stock. Unfortunately this particular tent is not currently in stock. It is still on the manufactures site the last time we looked.

CONCLUSION

4.2 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.2 STARS

Eureka's Desert Canyon 6 tent is ideal for car camping. There are a couple of other nice points not noted above which, we found and liked, while reviewing the model: Ideal for backyards, festivals, and family campgrounds, Near-vertical walls in this cabin-style tent dramatically increase interior space and The extended eave construction provides a completely dry entryway and allows for the fly and frame to be used alone to create an open-walled sunshade.

With favorable ratings, and a center height of 7' and 100 square feet of area to sleep, this tent is like your very own miniature residence. It will enable you together with 4 other friends to share some real quality moments exploring the great outdoors. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can look at above.

If you found this website looking for recommendations about this particular tent, our view is, it should make for a good purchase. If you just happened to land on this page while browsing for a new tent having not heard of this manufacurer or this tent model before, it is possibly a good idea to look at some other similar tents.

Value for money: When contemplating value for money, this tent is a lot cheaper than the usual price of all the one hundred and seven, six-person tents we have studied, this by itself does not make it good value for money. We also need to take into account other areas in-depth, as we do with each tent.

When we determine the overall score of a tent, we examine a good deal of data points, finding areas where the tent could outperform other very similar tents and where it is coming up short. In this case, with a total rating of 4.2 and the price info above, we can identify that with a cost of $349.95 The Desert Canyon 6 is a good purchase and fabulously competitively priced when compared with comparable tents.

The overall score shows that the quality and dimensions the tent provides were not compromised to arrive at a price tag significantly beneath the usual price for comparable tents. It is also worth thinking about the fact that it is marked down by 0% from the manufactures suggested price. It could make an awesome choice for nearly all people searching for an adequate three-season cabin tent to camp in, that will serve you well for years to come.
