Tent Set Up

Easy Color Coded Setup

Green Thumbs Up Logo

Summary: Favorable Reviews

Campers who have used the tent mentioned: They were happy with the easy setup and durable construction. Color-matched clips and such may not be necessary for such a small tent but are a nice touch to make it that much easier. It has performed well in the rain and stayed dry in the fiercest of storms and wind. One thing that stood out with the Salida is the attachments that go from the tent to the poles that hold it up. I liked how they twist on, so if the tent is bumped or blows in the wind, etc. , there is no chance of the tent detaching from the poles.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

People who bought the tent noted: That the rain fly door does not open high enough to get in and out of the tent without either kneeling on the ground or rubbing the roof with your back. Some of the lines are a little short to tie around heavy enough rocks. Quite heavy. One door can be a bit of pain with more than one person.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Salida 1 has one door and a maximum center height of 3' 2, which is a tiny bit less than the average height of the 68 other 1 person tents we have examined With 20 square feet of room inside, it is considerably smaller than some other 1-person tents, and it would be quite cramped for you during the whole of the 3-seasons, this tent is suggested for use in, smaller tents similar to this one can generally make a superb choice for people who appreciate spending loads of time outside exploring the great outdoors.

Some of the fantastic points about dome tents are, that they are generally speaking lightweight, making them easy to carry around. In most all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In calm weather, you can do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are without a doubt the most common of all the different sorts of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in storms than other types, allowing rain to roll off the slanted walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, resulting in the water pooling on the top of the tent. The most basic dome tent should have a rectangular floor, slanted walls two or more poles which cross in the middle of the roof. Due to their construction, it is typically thought of that they are ideal for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Down below, you can browse an account of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Salida can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibule. Having one vestibule. Offers you a place to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is good to see Kelty has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. Breathable. The Salida's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the summer.
  5. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1800mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  6. If you are looking for this particular tent, you are in luck it has been discontinued on the manufactures site, but is still available elsewhere.
  7. Tons of Positive Reviews The Salida 1 has Lots of excellent Reviews
  8. Great Ratings The Salida 1 has some of the best ratings of all the tents on optimumtents.com
  9. Other sizes are available. Kelty has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  10. Low price. It is a great purchase for a 1 person dome tent providing this much space. Not many tents available on the market give this level of quality for only $134.95

CONS

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 20 square feet, the Salida 1 is smaller than quite a few of the 68 other 1 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 6% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some people.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, The floor may be made of 68D Nylon but it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  4. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have many qualities to be positive about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

Value for money: In so much as value for your money, this tent is undoubtedly cheaper than the standard cost of all the one hundred and five, one-person tents we have studied, this just by itself does not make it good value for money. One should also think about other factors in-depth, as we do with each tent.

When we determine the score of a single tent, we examine a lot of stuff, finding areas where the tent could perform well against other near-identical tents and where it is not quite as good.
