Summary: Favorable Reviews

Some of the campers who bought this tent said: This is a well-engineered lite tent and well built. Well thought out features and easy to set up. Impressed on the way it stand against the wind. Tent poles are incredibly light and flexible as well. It is also well-ventilated, which is really important. This tent definitely fit the bill.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

People who experienced using this tent said: All I can say that this is a decent tent. It works well, but unfortunately, some noticeable flaws need to be mention. That includes the footprint in which the water gets trapped between it. If the rain is heavy, the sides sweat and create nice little pools of water inside after a few hours of rain. The zippers need also extra care. You do not want to repair it after using it for the first time. Just do not use under extreme weather conditions.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Hornet 2 Elite Ultralight has two doors and a maximum center height of 3' 1, which is 12 inches smaller than the average height of the 235 various 2 person tents we have studied. With 27 square feet of space inside, it is considerably smaller than some other 2-person tents, and it would be quite tight for you and, another camper during the 3-seasons, this tent is suggested for use in, smaller tents similar to this one are an excellent choice for people that enjoy spending loads of hours outside their tent getting some air.

Many of the great points about dome tents are, that they are generally speaking lightweight, making them easy to carry. In most all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In good weather, you could do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are the most commonly seen of all the different types of tents you will see when camping. They tend to fair better in the rain than other types, allowing water to roll off the sloped sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, resulting in the water pooling on the top of the tent. The most basic dome tent will have a rectangular floor, sloped walls two or more poles which cross in the center of the roof. Because of their construction, it is usually thought of that they are ideal for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Underneath you can see a list of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Gives you somewhere to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  2. Internal storage. It is nice to see Nemo Equipment has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your gear.
  3. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is easier to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  4. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1200mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  5. Other sizes are available. Nemo Equipment has also made this model available in Other Sizes.

CONS

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 27 square feet, the Hornet 2 is smaller than quite a few of the 246 other 2 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 12% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some people.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, The floor may be made of 10D Sil/PeU Nylon Ripstop but it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, more so on rough terrain.
  4. Out of Stock. Unfortunately this particular tent is not currently in stock. It is still on the manufactures website the last time we checked.
  5. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have heaps of qualities to be positive about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.
