Summary: Favorable Reviews

Setting it up only takes about 5 minutes. Outstanding quality. Rainfly has full coverage. Very cozy for two people and the floor gives you a feeling that it is super durable.

Teal Thumbs Down Logo

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Because of the full coverage of the rainfly, it's slightly hard to reach the bottom zipper of it. Having someone to help in putting the rainfly is very convenient because it might be a hassle putting it all by yourself. Finding a larger bag is a brilliant idea if you want to pack the tent with no problem or it taking too long because of it.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Extreme 3 Outfitter has two windows and two doors and a maximum center height of 4' 2, which is a little bit less than the average height of the 139 different 3 person tents we have examined With 48 square feet of room inside, it is a tiny bit larger than some other 3-person tents, and it should accommodate you and, up to two other campers throughout the 4-seasons, this tent is suggested for use in, smaller tents similar to this one are a fantastic choice for campers that prefer spending plenty of hours outside of the tent enjoying the fresh air.

Some of the cool points about dome tents are, that they are generally speaking light, making them simple to carry around. In near all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very simple to set up. In calm weather, you can do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are without a doubt the most commonly seen of all the various sorts of tents you will see when camping. They tend to fair better in the rain than other types, allowing water to easily slide off the slanted walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, allowing the water to pool on the top of the tent. The most basic dome tent should have a rectangular floor, sloped walls a couple of poles which converge in the middle of the roof. Due to their construction, it is typically considered that they are best for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Underneath you can see an account of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Extreme Outfitter can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Gives you somewhere to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is good to see Alps Mountaineering adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. More than one window. With 2 windows it is easier to keep the tent ventilated on a hot summers night.
  6. Breathable. The Extreme's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the summer.
  7. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 0mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  8. Plenty of Positive Reviews The Extreme 3 has Plenty of excellent Reviews
  9. Other sizes are available. Alps Mountaineering has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  10. Low price. It is a great deal for a 3 person dome tent that provides this much space. Not many tents available on the market give this level of quality for only $199.99

CONS

  1. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one available separately specifically for the Extreme 3 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 210D 110T Nylon, it is still better to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  2. A tad heavy for backpacking. Even though the Extreme 3, looks like a small tent, it is not ideal for backpacking as it weighs 9 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  3. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of things to be positive about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.5 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.5 STARS

Alps Mountaineering's Extreme 3 Outfitter tent is great for base camp and expeditions. Here are a few other nice points not noted above which, were noticed and liked, while reviewing the model: The Extreme 3 Outfitter takes all of the standard features of the Extreme 3 and enhances them with 2 key upgrades: oversized #10 door zippers and a heavy duty nylon oxford floor., a free standing aluminum pole tent, with a configuration that is extremely strong and sturdy. and Easy entry with two doors (both with zippered mesh windows).

With very good ratings, quite a lot of reviews and headroom of 4' and 48 square feet of space to enjoy, this tent is like your own small flat. This will enable you together with 2 other friends to enjoy some real quality time enjoying nature. We found a decent amount of positive points about the tent that you can study above.

If you found this page looking for suggestions about this specific tent, we consider, it should make for an excellent acquisition. If you just happened to land on this page while looking for a brand new tent having not heard of this manufacurer or this model previously, it is perhaps a good thing to look at a few other similar tents also.

Value for money: In terms of value for your dollar, this tent is a more competitive than the average price of all the one hundred and ninety-three, three-person tents we have taken a look at, this alone does not make it remarkable value for money. One should also take into account other areas in detail, as we do for each tent.

When we calculate the valuation of an individual tent, we scrutinize a lot of stuff, looking for things where the tent could beat other near-identical tents and where it is not quite as good. On this occasion, with a total rating of 4.5 and the price conclusions above, we can identify that with a cost of $199.99 The Extreme 3 Outfitter is an awesome buy and astonishingly priced when compared with similar tents.

Its ratings show that the quality and capacity the tent gives you were not in any way compromised to arrive at a price well beneath the usual price for similar tents. It is also worth noting it is reduced by 38% from the manufactures suggested retail price. It could make a superb choice for most people searching for an appropriate four-season dome tent to camp with, that should serve you well for years to come.
