Summary: Favorable Reviews

Exceeds its quality to cost ratio. Extremely easy to set, code colored and the materials look steady against wind and rain. The vestibules are huge, allowing you to store your gears and other belongings on the other side and enter on the other side.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

It is very impressive how lightweight this is, but I don't know how much use it can handle, especially the flooring. Talking about the space inside, it can comfortably fit two people but not the gears. However, you can just put your gear, backpacks, shoes, and other stuff in the vestibules.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Extreme 2 has two windows and two doors and a maximum center height of 3' 6, which is a little bit smaller than the average height of the 204 other 2 person tents we have examined With 35 square feet of space inside, it is a little bit smaller than some other 2-person tents, and it could be a little cramped for you and, another camper during the whole of the 3-seasons, this tent is suggested for use in, smaller tents like this one make an ideal choice for people that prefer spending plenty of hours outside of the tent enjoying the fresh air.

A few of the cool things about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part not too heavy, making them simple to carry. In most all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very simple to set up. In calm weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are easily the most commonly seen of all the various sorts of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in the rain than other types, allowing rain to roll off the sloped walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, allowing the water to pool on the roof. The most straightforward dome tent should have a square footprint, sloped walls a couple of poles which cross in the center of the roof. Due to their construction, it is generally thought of that they are best for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Beneath you can find a list of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Extreme can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Offers you a place to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is good to see Alps Mountaineering adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is easier to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. More than one window. With 2 openings it is simple to keep the tent cooler on a hot summers night.
  6. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 75D 185T poly taffeta, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to tears and punctures. Also, the material has a 3000 mm waterproofing rating, which is pretty good for most circumstances.
  7. Breathable. The Extreme's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the warmer months.
  8. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  9. Plenty of Positive Reviews The Extreme 2 has Tons of great Reviews
  10. Awesome Ratings The Extreme 2 has some of the best ratings of all the tents on optimumtents.com
  11. Available in other sizes. Alps Mountaineering has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  12. Low price. It is a great buy for a 2 person dome tent that provides this much space. Not a lot of tents available on the market give this level of quality for only $249.99

CONS

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 35 square feet, the Extreme 2 is smaller than quite a few of the 204 other 2 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 9% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative factor for some people.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one available separately specifically for the Extreme 2 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 75D 185T poly taffeta, it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  4. A little heavy for backpacking. Even though the Extreme 2, looks like a small tent, it is not probably the best choice for backpacking as it weighs 7 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  5. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of attributes to rave about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.9 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.9 STARS

Alps Mountaineering's Extreme 2 tent is good for bicycle & motorbike camping. There are a couple of other points not already mentioned above which, were found and liked, while researching the model: Multiple fly vents increase ventilation, Weatherproof fly buckles on for maximum adjustability and protection and Easy entry with two doors (both with zippered mesh windows).

With very good ratings, plenty of reviews and a minimum headroom of 3' and 35 square feet of area to sleep, this tent is like your own small home away from home. It allows you to enjoy some real quality moments camping. We found a decent amount of positive points about the tent that you can study above.

If you found this page looking for suggestions on this particular tent, we consider, it should make for an excellent purchase. If you simply happened to land on this page while browsing for a new tent having never heard of this brand or this tent model previously, it is probably a good idea to check out a few other comparable tents also.

Value for money: In terms of value for your money, this tent is undoubtedly more competitive than the usual price of all the two hundred and eighty-five, two-person tents we have looked at, this alone does not make it good value for money. We also need to think about other areas in detail, as we do for each tent.

When we measure the overall score of a single tent, we reflect upon plenty of stuff, finding areas where the tent could excel against other very similar tents and where it is lacking. In this case, with a total score of 4.9 and the price statistics above, one can spot that with a cost of $249.99 Alps Mountaineering's Extreme 2 is a very good bargain and fabulously competitively priced when compared with similar tents.

Its overall score shows that the quality and space the tent provides were not in any way skimped on to get a price significantly below the usual price for similar tents. It is also worth thinking about the fact that it is reduced by 0% from the manufactures suggested retail price. It should make a fantastic choice for most people searching for an adequate three-season dome tent to camp with, that should serve you well for years to come.
