Summary: Favorable Reviews

The tent is much larger than expected. Aside from my sleeping bag and hiking stuff, there is still enough room for other things. It even survived in windy and rainy conditions after days of using it.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

It is not best for those who are tall like about 6 feet tall. You might have a hard time, especially when you occupy it with four persons. About the rainfly, for me, it is poorly designed, but it can be better. Just the placement of the zippers and it's all good. Overall, not a bad tent for its price.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Lynx 4 has two doors and a peak center height of 4' 4, which is 12 inches less than the average height of the 134 different 4 person tents we have examined With 64 square feet of space inside, it is a little bit smaller than some other 4-person tents, and it could be a little tight for you and, up to three other campers during the whole of the 3-seasons, this tent is suggested for use in, smaller tents similar to this one can generally make a nice choice for campers who appreciate spending plenty of hours outside of the tent enjoying the fresh air.

A few of the cool things about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part lightweight, making them simple to carry. In nearly all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In calm weather, you can do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are easily the most commonly seen of all the different types of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in the rain than other types, allowing rain to easily slide off the sloped sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, resulting in the rain pooling on the top of the tent. The simplest dome tent should have a rectangular floor, slanted sides a couple of poles which cross in the center of the roof. Because of their construction, it is generally thought of that they are best for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Beneath you can see an account of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Lynx can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Offers you somewhere to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is nice to see Alps Mountaineering adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is easier to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 75D 185T poly taffeta, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to rips and punctures. Also, the material has a 2000 mm waterproofing rating, which is very good for most circumstances.
  6. Breathable. The Lynx's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the warmer months.
  7. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  8. Tons of Positive Reviews The Lynx 4 has Lots of awesome Reviews
  9. Awesome Ratings The Lynx 4 has some of the best ratings of all the tents on optimumtents.com
  10. Other sizes are available. Alps Mountaineering has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  11. Low price. It is a great deal for a 4 person dome tent that provides this much room. Not many tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $199.99

CONS

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 64 square feet, the Lynx 4 is smaller than quite a lot of the 134 other 4 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 12% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some people.
  3. No windows. With no windows it is not easy to keep the tent cool on a hot summers night.
  4. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one sold separately designed for the Lynx 4 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 75D 185T poly taffeta, it is still better to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  5. A little heavy for backpacking. Even though the Lynx 4, looks like a small tent, it is not probably the best choice for backpacking as it weighs 8 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  6. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of qualities to rave about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

5 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 5.0 STARS

Alps Mountaineering's Lynx 4 tent is good for bicycle & motorbike camping. Here are a couple of other things not already mentioned above which, we found and liked, while researching the model: Mesh storage pockets, gear loft, 7075 aluminum stakes, and guy ropes included, There are extra-large #8 zippers on the door and vestibule and To be sure no corners are cut, ALPS has the factory seal the fly and floor seams.

With exceptional ratings, lots of reviews and a peak height of 4' and 64 square feet of space to enjoy, this tent is like your very own small home away from home. It will allow you and up to 2 other people to share some delightful time in the outdoors together. We found a decent amount of positive points about the tent that you can look at above.

If you found this website looking for an endorsement on this particular tent, we think, it will make for an excellent purchase. If you just happened to land on this page while looking for a brand new tent having not heard of this manufacurer or this tent model previously, it is probably a good thing to look at a few other comparable tents.

Value for money: In terms of value for money, this tent is significantly more competitive than the usual price of all the one hundred and fifty-four, four-person tents we have taken a look at, this itself does not make it good value for money. We also need to take into account other factors in detail, as we do for every tent.

When we tally up the valuation of an individual tent, we consider plenty of stuff, searching for things where the tent could excel against other very similar tents and where it is lacking. On this occasion, with a total score of 5.0 and the price knowledge above, one can recognize that with a price of $199.99 The Lynx 4 is an excellent deal and astonishingly competitively priced when compared with comparable tents.

The ratings show that the build and dimensions the tent offers were not in any way skimped on to get a price well under the usual price for similar tents. It is also worth thinking about the fact that it is marked down by 9% from the manufactures suggested retail price. It could make an awesome choice for nearly all people looking for an adequate three-season dome tent to go camping in, that should serve you well for years to come.
