Tent Set Up

Easy assembly with pole clips that quickly snap over the tent poles

Green Thumbs Up Logo

Summary: Favorable Reviews

A full rainfly covers everything, no leaks during the rain. Two-door access and an exit is a plus. Never had a problem with aluminum poles. Plenty of space for one person and even two dogs.

Teal Thumbs Down Logo

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Take it easy when zipping and unzipping either door. It's slightly vulnerable when you put a lot of force on it. You should also take care of the fabric when setting up or taking down. Giving extra attention to it would avoid any tearing in it.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Lynx 2 has two doors and a maximum center height of 3' 10, which is a little bit smaller than the average height of the 204 various 2 person tents we have examined With 37 square feet of room inside, it is a little bit larger than some other 2-person tents, and it should accommodate you and, another camper throughout the 3-seasons, this tent is recommended for use in, smaller tents similar to this one can make a fantastic choice for people who love spending plenty of time outside the tent exploring.

A few of the fantastic points about dome tents are, that they are under normal circumstances light, making them simple to carry around. In most all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very easy to set up. In calm weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are the most common of all the various types of tents you will find when camping. They tend to fair better in storms than other types, allowing water to roll off the sloped sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, allowing the water to pool on the roof. The simplest dome tent should have a rectangular footprint, slanted walls a couple of poles which cross in the center of the roof. Due to the way they are made, it is generally considered that they are ideal for up to a maximum of 6 people.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Lynx can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Affords you somewhere to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is good to see Alps Mountaineering adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 75D 185T poly taffeta, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to tears and punctures. Also, the material has a 2000 mm waterproofing rating, which is very good for most circumstances.
  6. Breathable. The Lynx's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the warmer months.
  7. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  8. Plenty of Positive Reviews The Lynx 2 has Plenty of fantastic Reviews
  9. Excellent Ratings The Lynx 2 has some of the best ratings of all the tents on optimumtents.com
  10. Other sizes are available. Alps Mountaineering has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  11. Low price. It is a great buy for a 2 person dome tent providing this much room. Not a lot of tents available on the market give this level of quality for only $119.99

CONS

  1. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one sold separately specifically for the Lynx 2 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 75D 185T poly taffeta, it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  2. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have heaps of qualities to rave about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

5 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 5.0 STARS

Alps Mountaineering's Lynx 2 tent is good for backpacking. There are a couple of other things not mentioned above which, we found and liked, while researching the model: Mesh storage pockets, gear loft, 7075 aluminum stakes, and guy ropes included, There are extra-large #8 zippers on the door and vestibule and To be sure no corners are cut, ALPS has the factory seal the fly and floor seams.

With fantastic ratings, tons of reviews and a minimum headroom of 3' and 37 square feet of space to enjoy, this tent is like your own modest studio. It will enable you to enjoy some really enjoyable moments hanging out with nature. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can look at above.

If you came to this page looking for suggestions on this particular tent, we think, it will make for an excellent purchase. If you just happened to land on this page while looking for a new tent having not heard of this brand or this model before, it is probably a good idea to look at some other comparable tents.

Value for money: When contemplating value for money, this tent is undoubtedly more competitive than the usual cost of all the two hundred and eighty-five, two-person tents we have taken a look at, this itself does not make it good value for money. One should also take into account other areas in detail, as we do with every tent.

When we calculate the score of an individual tent, we regard a lot of things, finding things where the tent could outdo other near-identical tents and where it is not quite as good. In this case, with a total rating of 5.0 and the price knowledge above, It is simple enough to spot that with a ticket price of $119.99 The Lynx 2 is a perfect bargain and incredibly competitively priced when compared with comparable tents.

The ratings show that the build and space the tent gives you were not in any way compromised to get a price tag significantly beneath the standard price for comparable tents. It is also worth noting it is discounted by 25% from the manufactures suggested retail price. It could make a remarkable choice for nearly all campers looking for an adequate three-season backpacking tent to camp with, that will serve you well for years to come.
