Summary: Favorable Reviews

This tent is a masterpiece. The design is striking. You're gonna love the space inside. It is very spacious and would definitely fit two persons.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

I was sad because the windows don't have any cover. I wanted to keep it close for some privacy and protection if the weather gets cold during a camping trip. The sleeping area is small for two persons.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Taurus 2 has two windows and two doors and a maximum center height of 3' 10, which is a little bit smaller than the average height of the 204 various 2 person tents we have examined With 37 square feet of space inside, it is a little bit larger than some other 2-person tents, and it should accommodate you and, another camper all through the 3-seasons, this tent is suggested for use in, smaller tents similar to this one are an excellent choice for campers that enjoy spending lots of hours outside the tent exploring.

Some of the great things about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part not too heavy, making them simple to carry around. In nearly all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In good weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are the most commonly seen of all the other sorts of tents you will find when camping. They tend to do better in the rain than other types, allowing water to easily slide off the sloped sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, allowing the rain to pool on the roof. The most straightforward dome tent should have a square footprint, slanted walls a couple of poles which converge in the center of the roof. Due to the way they are made, it is generally thought of that they are best for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Beneath you can see a list of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Taurus can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Gives you somewhere to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is good to see Alps Mountaineering adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. More than one window. With 2 openings it is simple to keep the tent cool on a hot summers night.
  6. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 75D 185T poly taffeta, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to tears and punctures. Also, the material has a 2000 mm waterproofing rating, which is pretty good for most circumstances.
  7. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  8. Great Ratings The Taurus 2 has some of the best ratings of all the tents on optimumtents.com
  9. Other sizes are available. Alps Mountaineering has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  10. Low price. It is a great deal for a 2 person dome tent providing this much space. Not many tents available on the market give this level of quality for only $129.99

CONS

  1. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one sold separately specifically for the Taurus 2 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 75D 185T poly taffeta, it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  2. A tad heavy for backpacking. Even though the Taurus 2, looks like a small tent, it is not ideal for backpacking as it weighs 7 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  3. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of qualities to be positive about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

5 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 5.0 STARS

Alps Mountaineering's Taurus 2 tent is ideal for bicycle & motorbike camping. Here are a couple of other nice points not noted above which, were noticed and liked, while researching the model: Mesh roof vents increase ventilation and improve star-gazing, ALPS tents each come with a factory sealed fly and floor seams to give you the best weather protection and keep you dry. and Easy entry and great ventilation with two doors (both with zippered mesh windows).

In case you simply happened to arrive on this page while browsing for a new tent having never heard of this manufacurer or this tent before, it is perhaps a good idea to check out a few more similar tents.

Value for money: In so much as value for your dollar, this tent is significantly more competitive than the usual cost of all the two hundred and eighty-five, two-person tents we have looked at, this alone by itself does not make it awesome value for money. We also need to think about other factors in detail, as we do with each tent.

When we determine the overall score of an individual tent, we consider a good deal of conditions, finding points where the tent could beat other near-identical tents and where it is not quite as good. On this occasion, with an overall score of 5.0 and the price info above, one can spot that with a cost of $129.99 Alps Mountaineering's Taurus 2 is a superb bargain and incredibly competitively priced when compared with comparable tents.

Its ratings show that the quality and dimensions the tent gives you were not in any way compromised to arrive at a price significantly below the average price for similar tents. It is also worth noting it is discounted by 0% from the manufactures MSRP. It should make a remarkable choice for nearly all campers searching for a comfortable three-season dome tent to go camping with, that will serve you well for years to come.
