Summary: Favorable Reviews

Campers who have reviewed the older Extreme 3 mentioned that: It has tons of vestibule space on both sides, never had to bring my gear inside the tent during the past couple weeks of camping. The tent's middle pole is pre-bent in the center and surprised us because it looked so warped. But rest assured that this a design feature! I can unequivocally say that this tent is an actual life-saver, excellent quality, and easy to pitch once you understand the color codes.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

People who have reviewed the older Extreme 3 said: As with any other three-person tent, don't expect to fit three adults comfortably in this tent. Thin floor material necessitates the additional purchase of a floor saver.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Westgate 3 has two windows and two doors and a maximum center height of 4' 2, which is a tiny bit less than the average height of the 144 various 3 person tents we have examined With 48 square feet of room inside, it is a little bit larger than some other 3-person tents, and it should accommodate you and, up to two other campers during the 3-seasons, this tent is recommended for use in, smaller tents like this one make an excellent choice for campers that love spending heaps of time outside their tent getting some air.

Many of the cool points about dome tents are, that they are generally speaking light, making them simple to carry around. In most all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In calm weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are easily the most common of all the various sorts of tents you will see when camping. They tend to fair better in bad weather than other types, allowing rain to roll off the sloped sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, resulting in the rain pooling on the top of the tent. The simplest dome tent should have a rectangular floor, slanted walls a couple of poles which converge in the center of the roof. Because of their construction, it is usually considered that they are ideal for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Down below, you can check out a list of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Westgate can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Gives you somewhere to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is good to see Alps Mountaineering adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. More than one window. With 2 windows it is simple to keep the tent ventilated on a hot summers night.
  6. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 75D 185T poly taffeta, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to tears and punctures. Also, the material has a 3000 mm waterproofing rating, which is pretty good for most circumstances.
  7. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  8. Low price. It is a great buy for a 3 person dome tent that provides this much space. Not many tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $149.98

CONS

  1. Lacking in Headroom. With 5% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some people.
  2. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one sold separately specifically for the Westgate 3 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 75D 185T poly taffeta, it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  3. A tad heavy for backpacking. Even though the Westgate 3, looks like a small tent, it is not probably the best choice for backpacking as it weighs 8 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  4. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of qualities to rave about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

5 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 5.0 STARS

Alps Mountaineering's Westgate 3 tent is really good for bicycle & motorbike camping. There are a few other things not noted above which, we found and liked, while reviewing the model: The 3-pole design gives you more 'framework' to combat Mother Nature when she decides to send you a little stronger storm than normal. , The vestibules also serve as automatic guy-out points when the weather gets a little nasty. and Multiple fly vents increase ventilation.

With wonderful ratings, a couple of reviews and headroom of 4' and 48 square feet of area to sleep, this tent is like your very own modest home away from home. It will enable you and up to 2 other friends to share some delightful moments camping together. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can study above.

If you came to this page looking for recommendations about this actual tent, our view is, it should make for a great buy. In case you just happened to arrive on this page while browsing for a brand new tent having not heard of this manufacurer or this tent model before, it is probably a good idea to look at some more comparable tents also.

Value for money: When considering value for money, this tent is undoubtedly more competitive than the standard price of all the one hundred and fourty-four, three-person tents we have taken a look at, all alone this does not make it awesome value for money. One should also think about other factors in-depth, as we do for each tent.

When we determine the score of an individual tent, we study a lot of things, searching for areas where the tent could excel against other similar tents and where it is coming up short. On this occasion, with an overall rating of 5.0 and the price info above, we can recognize that with a price of $149.98 The Westgate 3 is a good buy and fabulously cheap in comparison with similar tents.

The ratings show that the build and size the tent offers were not skimped on to obtain a price tag undoubtedly under the average price for similar tents. It is also worth noting it is discounted by 46% from the manufactures suggested price. It should make an awesome choice for nearly all people searching for a comfortable three-season dome tent to go camping with, that should serve you well for years to come.
