SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Mad House 8 has two windows and two doors and a maximum center height of 6' 1, which is a little bit smaller than the average height of the 53 various 8 person tents we have examined With 124 square feet of space inside, it is a lot smaller than some other 8-person tents, and it would be quite cramped for you and, up to seven other campers throughout the 4-seasons, this tent is approved for use in, larger tents similar to this one are a great choice for families who appreciate having heaps of room inside their tent for sleeping and hanging out.

Many of the fantastic things about dome tents are, that they are under normal circumstances light, making them easy to carry. In near all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very easy to set up. In good weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are without a doubt the most commonly seen of all the various sorts of tents you will find when camping. They tend to fair better in storms than other types, allowing water to roll off the slanted sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, resulting in the rain pooling on the top. The simplest dome tent will have a square floor, slanted walls two or more poles which cross in the middle of the roof. Due to their construction, it is generally considered that they are best for up to a maximum of 6 campers. Many dome tents contain more than a single room, similar to the Big Agnes Mad House two-room tent

Underneath you can see an account of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Mad House can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Affords you somewhere to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is nice to see Big Agnes has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one room. The Mad House is designed with two rooms, allowing for extra privacy. Great for a large family and groups who do not want to be all sleeping together.
  5. Removable divider. For those who want to maximize all of the available space that the Mad House provides, the divider can be removed to have one large room for everyone to share.
  6. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is easier to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  7. More than one window. With 2 openings it is easier to keep the tent cooler on a hot summers night.
  8. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is Polyester Oxford, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to rips and punctures. Also, the material has a 5000 mm waterproofing rating, which is pretty good for most circumstances.
  9. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1200mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  10. Available in other sizes. Big Agnes has also made this model available in Other Sizes.

CONS

  1. Susceptible to wind. Because of its size and shape, the Mad House may not do best in strong winds if it is not firmly secured with the provided guy lines and stakes. Even though the tent is listed as freestanding in all but very calm conditions, one would want to stake and tie it down correctly.
  2. Not spacious. With a floor area of 124 square feet, the Mad House 8 is smaller than quite a lot of the 53 other 8 person tents we have looked at.
  3. Lacking in Headroom. With 8% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some campers.
  4. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one available separately designed for the Mad House 8 footprint Even though the floor may be made of Polyester Oxford, it is still better to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  5. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of qualities to be positive about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.6 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.6 STARS

Big Agnes's Mad House 8 tent is perfect for base camp and expeditions. Here are a couple of other cool things not already mentioned above which, we noticed and liked, while researching the model: Made with high tenacity yarns which increase tear strength by 20-25% over standard rip-stop fabrics. , Dual room set up available with included fabric wall that can be stowed away when not in use and Fly vents and windows with two closure options: mesh only for ventilation, or zip up the nylon layer for complete closure and Dual, equalized guylines for added stability and strength in high winds.

With exceptional ratings, and a minimum headroom of 6' and 124 square feet of space to enjoy, this tent is like your very own little residence. It enables you together with 6 other people to share some delightful moments enjoying nature. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can look at above.

If you came to this website looking for an endorsement on this particular tent, our view is, it would make for an excellent purchase. If you simply happened to land on this website while looking for a new tent having not heard of this brand or this tent model before, it is probably a good idea to look at some more comparable tents also.

Value for money: When thinking about value for money, this tent is without a doubt more expensive than the usual price of all the fifty-five, eight-person tents we have looked at, this alone by itself is not a negative thing. We also need to take a look at other areas in-depth, as we do with every tent.

When we tally up the score of an individual tent, we regard plenty of stuff, searching for areas where the tent could beat out other similar tents and where it is not quite as good. In this case, with a total score of 4.6 and the price statistics above, one can observe that with a cost of $1199.95 Big Agnes's Mad House 8 is a fantastic buy even though it may be thought of as quite pricey when compared with comparable tents.

The overall score shows that the quality and dimensions the tent provides make it a fantastic buy for those searching for a tent that will be used for many years. It will make a decent choice for nearly all people searching for an adequate four-season dome tent to camp with, that should serve you well for years to come.
