SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Mad House 6 has two windows and two doors and a peak center height of 5' 8, which is a tiny bit less than the average height of the 109 various 6 person tents we have examined With 94 square feet of space inside, it is a lot smaller than some other 6-person tents, and it would be quite cramped for you and, up to five other campers throughout the 4-seasons, this tent is approved for use in, smaller tents like this one often can make an ideal choice for campers who like spending loads of time outside the tent exploring.

Some of the great points about dome tents are, that they are generally speaking not too heavy, making them easy to carry. In near all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In good weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are the most common of all the various types of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in bad weather than other types, allowing rain to roll off the sloped sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, resulting in the rain pooling on the top of the tent. The most basic dome tent will have a rectangular footprint, slanted walls a couple of poles which converge in the middle of the roof. Because of the way they are made, it is usually considered that they are ideal for up to a maximum of 6 people.Lot’s of dome tents have more than just one room to stay in, just like the Big Agnes Mad House two-room tent

Down below, you can check out a list of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Mad House can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Offers you a place to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is good to see Big Agnes has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your stuff.
  4. More than one room. The Mad House comes with two rooms, allowing for more privacy. Perfect for a large family and groups who do not want to be all sleeping together.
  5. Removable divider. For those who would like to maximize all of the available space that the Mad House provides, the divider can be removed to have one large room for everyone to share.
  6. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is easier to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  7. More than one window. With 2 windows it is simple to keep the tent ventilated on a hot summers night.
  8. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is Polyester Oxford, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to rips and punctures. Also, the material has a 5000 mm waterproofing rating, which is pretty good for most circumstances.
  9. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1200mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  10. Available in other sizes. Big Agnes has also made this model available in Other Sizes.

CONS

  1. Sensitive to wind. Because of its size and shape, the Mad House may not do well in strong winds if it is not firmly secured with the provided guy lines and stakes. Even though the tent is listed as freestanding in all but very calm conditions, one would want to stake and tie it down correctly.
  2. Not roomy. With a floor area of 94 square feet, the Mad House 6 is smaller than quite a few of the 109 other 6 person tents we have looked at.
  3. Lacking in Headroom. With 8% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative factor for some campers.
  4. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one available separately specifically for the Mad House 6 footprint Even though the floor may be made of Polyester Oxford, it is still better to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  5. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have many things to rave about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.6 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.6 STARS

Big Agnes's Mad House 6 tent is perfect for base camp and expeditions. There are a couple of other nice points not mentioned above which, we found and liked, while reviewing the model: Made with high tenacity yarns which increase tear strength by 20-25% over standard rip-stop fabrics. , Dual room set up available with included fabric wall that can be stowed away when not in use and Fly vents and windows with two closure options: mesh only for ventilation, or zip up the nylon layer for complete closure and Dual, equalized guylines for added stability and strength in high winds.

With fantastic ratings, and headroom of 5' and 94 square feet of space to enjoy, this tent is like your very own modest home away from home. This enables you and up to 4 other friends to enjoy some delightful moments camping together. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can check out above.

If you found this website looking for suggestions about this particular tent, we consider, it will make for a very good buy. If you just happened to land on this page while looking for a brand new tent having never heard of this brand or this model previously, it is perhaps a good idea to look at a few other comparable tents also.

Value for money: When contemplating value for your dollar, this tent is without a doubt pricier than the average price of all the one hundred and ten, six-person tents we have taken a look at, this alone is not a negative thing. One should also look at other things in detail, as we do for every tent.

When we tally up the score of a single tent, we regard plenty of conditions, searching for points where the tent could beat other similar tents and where it is coming up short. On this occasion, with a total rating of 4.6 and the price data above, one can conclude that with a cost of $999.95 info_outline Big Agnes's Mad House 6 is a perfect bargain though it could be considered very pricey when set side by side with comparable tents.

The ratings show that the quality and space the tent gives you make it a remarkable purchase for those wanting a tent that will be used for plenty of years. It could make an ok choice for most people looking for an adequate four-season dome tent to camp with, that should serve you well for years to come.
