Tent Set Up

Set-up is a breeze.

Green Thumbs Up Logo

Summary: Favorable Reviews

The tent keeps the inside dry in the rain. Fully zippable windows keeps dust and water out. Easy to set up and take down. Good value.

Teal Thumbs Down Logo

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Kind of heavy for backpacking. Could not fit 4 comfortably, but it does fit 3 nicely. No back door. Can be hard to set up by one person. Bottom zipper can get jammed, and can leak water sometimes.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Timberline 4 has one door and a maximum center height of 4' 10, which is a little bit less than the average height of the 141 other 4 person tents we have examined With 63 square feet of room inside, it is a tiny bit smaller than some other 4-person tents, and it could be a little cramped for you and, up to three other campers during the whole of the 3-seasons, this tent is recommended for use in, smaller tents like this one often can make an ideal choice for campers who appreciate spending lots of time outside their tent getting some air.

Many of the fantastic things about a frame tents are, that they are generally speaking not too heavy, making them easy to carry around. In nearly all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the a frame type. They are usually, freestanding and very easy to set up. In good weather, you can do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is suggested.

A Frame tents are the most common of all the other sorts of tents you will find when camping. They tend to do better in bad weather than other types, allowing rain to roll off the slanted walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, resulting in the rain pooling on the roof. The simplest a frame tent should have a rectangular floor, sloped sides a couple of poles which converge in the middle of the roof. Due to the way they are made, it is usually considered that they are ideal for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Beneath you can browse a list of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Timberline can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Internal storage. It is nice to see Eureka has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your stuff.
  3. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 800mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  4. Available in other sizes. Eureka has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  5. Low price. It is a great deal for a 4 person a frame tent that provides this much space. Not many tents available on the market give this level of quality for only $299.95

CONS

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 63 square feet, the Timberline 4 is smaller than quite a few of the 141 other 4 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 5% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative factor for some campers.
  3. No windows. With no windows it is not simple to keep the tent cool on a hot summers night.
  4. No Vestibules. If you want to keep your dirty shoes, clothes, and backpacks protected from the rain etc, you will have to store them inside the tent.
  5. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, The floor may be made of 75D 210T StormShield polyester taffeta but it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  6. A little heavy for backpacking. Even though the Timberline 4, looks like a small tent, it is not ideal for backpacking as it weighs 8 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  7. Storage Space. because of the size of the tent, one cannot store a lot of gear inside..
