Summary: Favorable Reviews

Campers who have camped with the tent mentioned that: they were very pleased with the lightness and ease of set up, an excellent shelter for when you have limited space but still want to sleep in relative comfort. Nice to have great views with the large entryway. Small size for backpack storage, dries quickly.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Agate 2 has one door and a peak center height of 3' 6, which is 11 inches less than the average height of the 213 other 2 person tents we have studied. With 35 square feet of space inside, it is a tiny bit larger than some other 2-person tents, and it should accommodate you and, another camper during the 3-seasons, this tent is approved for use in, smaller tents similar to this one can generally make a good choice for campers who prefer spending plenty of time outside of the tent enjoying the fresh air.

Some of the cool things about bivy tents are, that they are for, the most part not too heavy, making them easy to carry. In near all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the bivy type. They are usually, freestanding and very simple to set up. In good weather, you can do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is suggested.

Bivy tents are easily the most common of all the different types of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in the rain than other types, allowing water to easily slide off the sloped walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, resulting in the water pooling on the top of the tent. The most basic bivy tent should have a square floor, slanted sides a couple of poles which cross in the middle of the roof. Because of their construction, it is typically thought of that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Down below, you can check out an account of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Agate can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Internal storage. It is nice to see Marmot has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your things.
  3. Includes FootPrint. It is quite rare to see a footprint included with the tent. It is strongly suggested to always use a footprint, so not having to buy one is a bonus.
  4. Low price. It is a great deal for a 2 person bivy tent that provides this much room. Not a lot of tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $214.00

CONS

  1. Lacking in Headroom. With 11% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative factor for some people.
  2. No Vestibules. If you want to keep your dirty shoes, clothes, and backpacks protected from the elements, you will have to store them inside the tent.
  3. Out of Stock. Unfortunately this particular tent is not currently in stock. It is still on the manufactures website the last time we checked.

CONCLUSION

4.2 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.2 STARS

Marmot's Agate 2 tent is really good for backpacking. Here are a couple of other things not noted above which, were noticed and liked, while researching the model: Reflective guylines with cord adjusters pre-attached to the tarp, Trekking poles double as its structure, but if you want another option, use the included full-length pole for support. and If the winds pick up, multiple guy out points provide added stability.

With positive ratings, and headroom of 3' and 35 square feet of space to enjoy, this tent is like your own small studio. This enables you to enjoy some real quality moments in the outdoors. We found a decent amount of positive points about the tent that you can read through above.

If you came to this page looking for recommendations on this actual tent, our view is, it would make for a good purchase. If you simply happened to arrive on this website while looking for a brand new tent having not heard of this brand or this tent before, it is possibly a good idea to look at some more similar tents also.

Value for money: In terms of value for money, this tent is undoubtedly cheaper than the usual cost of all the two hundred and thirteen, two-person tents we have taken a look at, this just by itself does not make it remarkable value for money. We also need to look at other areas in detail, as we do for every tent.

When we tally up the score of a single tent, we scrutinize a good deal of data points, searching for areas where the tent could beat out other comparable tents and where it is not quite as good. On this occasion, with an overall rating of 4.2 and the price data above, It is simple enough to conclude that with a price of $214.00 Marmot's Agate 2 is a fair deal and astonishingly cheap when compared with comparable tents.

The overall score shows that the quality and space the tent offers were not skimped on to finish up with a price significantly under the normal price for comparable tents. It is also worth thinking about the fact that it is discounted by 0% from the manufactures MSRP. It will make an awesome choice for nearly all campers searching for a comfortable three-season backpacking tent to go camping in, that will serve you well for years to come.
