Campers mentioned: It has excellent construction with super ease of assembly. Especially nice in freezing weather. During the night, they had a storm with wind ( about 15m/s ) and snow, and the tent was held up well! The Marmot Fortress is an excellent 3-4 season tent and well suited for early spring, late fall, winter, and high elevation backpacking. One mentioned they had used this tent about six times now with no issues at all. It sets up easy, even in windy conditions. One camper went on a trip for many months, sleeping every day in the tent, and appreciated the big inner space inside the Fortress.
Campers noted: The tent is a bit heavy, but for rough conditions, it is ok. Some people found it pretty challenging to get in/out of the tent, as it is more like a narrow vertical slit. Others noted that, as is often the case with tents, it would be very tight to sleep the full number of people the manufacture claims it accommodates.

Many of the fantastic things about dome tents are, that they are under normal circumstances light, making them easy to carry. In near all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very simple to set up. In good weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is recommended.
Dome tents are without a doubt the most common of all the other types of tents you will see when camping. They tend to fair better in bad weather than other types, allowing rain to easily slide off the sloped sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, resulting in the water pooling on the roof. The simplest dome tent should have a rectangular footprint, sloped walls two or more poles which converge in the center of the roof.
