Summary: Favorable Reviews

Campers mentioned: It has excellent construction with super ease of assembly. Especially nice in freezing weather. During the night, they had a storm with wind ( about 15m/s ) and snow, and the tent was held up well! The Marmot Fortress is an excellent 3-4 season tent and well suited for early spring, late fall, winter, and high elevation backpacking. One mentioned they had used this tent about six times now with no issues at all. It sets up easy, even in windy conditions. One camper went on a trip for many months, sleeping every day in the tent, and appreciated the big inner space inside the Fortress.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Campers noted: The tent is a bit heavy, but for rough conditions, it is ok. Some people found it pretty challenging to get in/out of the tent, as it is more like a narrow vertical slit. Others noted that, as is often the case with tents, it would be very tight to sleep the full number of people the manufacture claims it accommodates.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Fortress 2 has two doors and a peak center height of 3' 6, which is a little bit smaller than the average height of the 204 other 2 person tents we have examined With 32 square feet of room inside, it is a tiny bit smaller than some other 2-person tents, and it could be a little cramped for you and, another camper during the whole of the 4-seasons, this tent is suggested for use in, smaller tents similar to this one often make an awesome choice for campers that prefer spending plenty of time outside of the tent enjoying the fresh air.

Many of the fantastic things about dome tents are, that they are under normal circumstances light, making them easy to carry. In near all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very simple to set up. In good weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are without a doubt the most common of all the other types of tents you will see when camping. They tend to fair better in bad weather than other types, allowing rain to easily slide off the sloped sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, resulting in the water pooling on the roof. The simplest dome tent should have a rectangular footprint, sloped walls two or more poles which converge in the center of the roof. Because of their construction, it is generally considered that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Fortress can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Affords you a place to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is good to see Marmot has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your gear.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 68D 190T poly taffeta, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to tears and punctures. Also, the material has a 2000 mm waterproofing rating, which is pretty good for most circumstances.
  6. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  7. Available in other sizes. Marmot has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  8. Low price. It is a great buy for a 2 person dome tent that provides this much space. Not a lot of tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $289

CONS

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 32 square feet, the Fortress 2 is smaller than quite a few of the 204 other 2 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 9% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some people.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, The floor may be made of 68D 190T poly taffeta but it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  4. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have heaps of attributes to rave about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.8 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.8 STARS

Marmot's Fortress 2 tent is ideal for mountaineering and backpacking. Here are a couple of other cool things not noted above which, we noticed and liked, while researching the model: Zone Pre-Bend Construction Creates Vertical Walls, More Roomy Sleeping Area and Greater Head Room, Lamp Shade Pocket Securely Holds Your Headlamp to Provide Ambient Light and The Fortress has a full fabric canopy with durable guy outs, which add strength and stability, to endure stormy weather.

With favorable ratings, a couple of reviews and headroom of 3' and 32 square feet of space to play with, this tent is like your very own small home away from home. It will allow you to enjoy some real quality moments hanging out with nature. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can look at above.

If you came to this page looking for an endorsement about this particular tent, we think, it should make for a good acquisition. In case you just happened to arrive on this website while browsing for a brand new tent having not heard of this brand or this model before, it is probably a good idea to check out some other similar tents also.

Value for money: When contemplating value for your dollar, this tent is a more competitive than the usual price of all the two hundred and eighty-five, two-person tents we have looked at, all alone this does not make it good value for money. One should also look at other things in detail, as we do for each tent.

When we calculate the ratings of a single tent, we consider loads of stuff, finding points where the tent could shine against other very similar tents and where it is not quite as good. On this occasion, with an overall rating of 4.8 and the price details above, we can notice that with a cost of $289 The Fortress 2 is a good buy and fabulously cheap in comparison with comparable tents.

The ratings show that the quality and size the tent provides were not compromised to obtain a price unquestionably under the average price for comparable tents. It is also worth thinking about the fact that it is marked down by 0% from the manufactures MSRP. It should make an awesome choice for most people looking for a comfortable four-season backpacking tent to camp with, that will serve you well for years to come.
