Tent Set Up

It sets up easily and quickly

Green Thumbs Up Logo

Summary: Favorable Reviews

Campers mentioned It stands up to 30-35 mph wind, pouring rain without a single leak. I love the benefit of the light system on the inside. Light, sturdy, sets up, breaks down, and packs quickly and full of great features. I had to set this tent up using mostly moon-light. It was a breeze. One day it dumped buckets of rain, yet the inside stayed warm and dry. Side entry was grand, and the vestibule is roomy, comfortable to access from within the tent, and kept my bags dry during a storm.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Reviews said Zippers are not that tough. I'm 5'9" tall, and the tent is perfect. If I were 6' or taller, I might not be happy in it. If you want the rain fly to be useful, you'll need to be able to stake it out. The only issue I have is the wiring on the light system is messed up, so I have to exchange it for a new one, so be careful with that feature while packing it up.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Rattlesnake 2 SL mtnGLO has two doors and a peak center height of 3' 6, which is a tiny bit smaller than the average height of the 204 different 2 person tents we have examined With 27 square feet of room inside, it is significantly smaller than some other 2-person tents, and it would be quite cramped for you and, another camper all through the 3-seasons, this tent is approved for use in, smaller tents similar to this one are an awesome choice for people who welcome spending loads of hours outside their tent getting some air.

Some of the fantastic things about dome tents are, that they are generally speaking light, making them simple to carry. In most all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very simple to set up. In good weather, you can do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are easily the most commonly seen of all the different sorts of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in the rain than other types, allowing rain to roll off the slanted sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, resulting in the water pooling on the top. The most straightforward dome tent will have a square floor, slanted sides two or more poles which cross in the center of the roof. Due to their construction, it is typically considered that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Down below, you can check out a list of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Rattlesnake SL mtnGLO can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Affords you somewhere to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is good to see Big Agnes has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your gear.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is easier to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 0mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  6. Available in other sizes. Big Agnes has also made this model available in Other Sizes.

CONS

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 27 square feet, the Rattlesnake 2 is smaller than quite a few of the 204 other 2 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 9% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some campers.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, The floor may be made of Ripstop nylon but it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, more so on rough terrain.
  4. Discontinued: Unfortunately this particular tent has been discontinued on the manufactures website and is no longer available elsewhere, that we are aware of.
  5. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of qualities to rave about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.4 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.4 STARS

Big Agnes's Rattlesnake 2 SL mtnGLO tent is really good for backpacking. There are a couple of other cool things not mentioned above which, we noticed and liked, while researching the model: Winner of Backpacker magazine's 2015 Editors' Choice Award for its built-in LED lighting, The vestibule on both sides is handy for storing a few items and Reflective guylines and webbing on tent corners.

With wonderful ratings, a few reviews and a center height of 3' and 27 square feet of area to sleep, this tent is like your own modest studio. It enables you to enjoy some really enjoyable time hanging out with nature. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can check out above.

If you found this page looking for recommendations about this actual tent, we think, it should make for a good purchase. In case you simply happened to land on this page while looking for a brand new tent having not heard of this manufacurer or this tent before, it is probably a good thing to check out some more similar tents.

Value for money: When considering value for your dollar, this tent is tad bit more competitive than the usual price of all the two hundred and eighty-five, two-person tents we have studied, this by itself does not make it good value for money. One should also look at other things in-depth, as we do for each tent.

When we calculate the overall score of a tent, we regard plenty of conditions, looking for points where the tent could outshine other similar tents and where it is not quite as good. On this occasion, with an overall score of 4.4 and the price knowledge above, It is simple enough to identify that with a ticket price of $349.95 Big Agnes's Rattlesnake 2 SL mtnGLO is a decent purchase and reasonably priced when compared with similar tents.

The ratings show that the build and size the tent offers were not skimped on to finish up with a price tag significantly below the standard price for similar tents. It will make an excellent choice for most campers searching for a comfy three-season backpacking tent to go camping in, that should serve you well for years to come.
