Tent Set Up

Easy setup with a freestanding design with aluminum poles, hug-clip and pole-sleeve construction

Summary: Favorable Reviews

People who bought the tent noted: That it held up to heavy rain and strong wind during a storm at 1100ft, without using every guy-out. The vestibules are large, and I put my 70L bag, chair, and boots on one side. The tent not only stood up, but everything stayed dry during rain and later snow. The rain fly does precisely what it is intended to do and allows for enough cross ventilation that almost eliminates any condensation. Setup: Straightforward, the color coated Kelty connect makes the process swift and easy (foolproof). Rained every single afternoon and didn't have a drop of water in it anywhere.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Campers who have used the tent mentioned: That it got a little toasty inside. The tent will take up three-quarters of your pack if you leave it in the included carry bag.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Trail Ridge 2 With Footprint has two doors and a peak center height of 3' 7, which is a little bit smaller than the average height of the 211 various 2 person tents we have examined With 34 square feet of room inside, it is a little bit smaller than some other 2-person tents, and it could be a little cramped for you and, another camper during the 3-seasons, this tent is suggested for use in, smaller tents like this one make a fantastic choice for people who prefer spending plenty of time outside the tent exploring.

A few of the great things about dome tents are, that they are generally speaking lightweight, making them simple to carry. In near all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In calm weather, you could do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are the most common of all the various types of tents you will find when camping. They tend to fair better in storms than other types, allowing rain to easily slide off the sloped walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, allowing the rain to pool on the roof. The most straightforward dome tent will have a rectangular footprint, slanted sides two or more poles which converge in the middle of the roof. Due to the way they are made, it is usually considered that they are ideal for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Down below, you can browse an account of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Trail Ridge With Footprint can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Offers you a place to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is good to see Kelty adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is easier to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. Includes FootPrint. It is not often we see a footprint included with the tent. It is strongly suggested to always use a footprint, so not having to pay extra for one is a plus.
  6. Breathable. The Trail Ridge's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the warmer months.
  7. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1800mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  8. If you are searching for this actual tent, you are in luck it has been discontinued on the manufactures website, but is still available elsewhere.
  9. Available in other sizes. Kelty has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  10. Low price. It is a great buy for a 2 person dome tent that provides this much room. Not many tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $229.95

CONS

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 34 square feet, the Trail Ridge 2 is smaller than quite a few of the 211 other 2 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 8% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative factor for some campers.
  3. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have many qualities to be positive about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.0 STARS

Kelty's Trail Ridge 2 With Footprint tent is ideal for backpacking. There are a couple of other nice points not mentioned above which, were noticed and liked, while reviewing the model: Fully seam-taped construction with a vented stargazing fly, 2 doors with 2 vestibules provide easy entrance and storage space for your gear and Comes with a footprint to protect the tent floor.

With ok ratings, a few reviews and a center height of 3' and 34 square feet of space for sleeping, this tent is like your own modest studio. It will allow you to enjoy some really enjoyable time in the outdoors. We found a decent amount of positive points about the tent that you can look at above.

If you found this page looking for recommendations about this actual tent, we think, it should make for a decent buy. In case you simply happened to land on this website while looking for a brand new tent having never heard of this brand or this model before, it is probably a good thing to look at some more similar tents also.

Value for money: As far as value for money, this tent is significantly more competitive than the standard price of all the two hundred and ninety-two, two-person tents we have taken a look at, this alone by itself does not make it excellent value for money. We also need to look at other things in detail, as we do for each tent.

When we tally up the ratings of an individual tent, we consider a good deal of conditions, searching for points where the tent could shine against other very similar tents and where it is lacking. In this case, with a total rating of 4.0 and the price data above, It is simple enough to see that with a cost of $229.95 The Trail Ridge 2 With Footprint is a good deal and fabulously competitively priced in comparison with similar tents.

Its overall score shows that the build and space the tent provides could possibly have been on a small scale skimped on to finish up with a price tag significantly under the normal price for similar tents. It is also worth noting it is discounted by 0% from the manufactures MSRP. It should make a decent choice for nearly all people searching for an adequate three-season backpacking tent to go camping in, that should serve you well.
