Tent Set Up

Summary: Favorable Reviews

Campers who purchased the tent mentioned: That it is very lightweight! It is a quality constructed tent, and the 4p version was a good fit for a 6' person and two dogs, one of which is a Great Dane, comfortably with room to spare. After purchased this tent for my weekend backpacking trips and I don't regret it one bit. It was straightforward to set up and has plenty of room inside for someone 6 foot 330lbs, along with his wife, and their gear. It packs well on top of a backpack, and the 6lbs of weight is not that heavy for short weekend trips. Well built and engineered. It comes with a great rain flap and is very robust in its build. The canopy that stores items overhead is useful. A perfect 3-season tent. Super easy to put together with one person in 3-5 minutes.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Campers who bought the tent noted: The interior space is enough for sleeping, but there's not much room for anything else besides your sleeping essentials. They also wished it had a vent in the fly. One reviewer mentioned that the gear loft is not included with the tent even though the description says so on Amazon. One of the pockets was not well sewn. The footprint that came with this tent needs to be fixed to the ground separately. If you hold it with the tent poles, it will be quite loose. Secondly, it would be better if the door was not vertical angled would be better.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Limelight 4 has two doors and a peak center height of 4' 6, which is a little bit less than the average height of the 134 other 4 person tents we have studied. With 52 square feet of space inside, it is a lot smaller than some other 4-person tents, and it would be quite cramped for you and, up to three other campers during the 3-seasons, this tent is approved for use in, smaller tents like this one often can make a very good choice for people that enjoy spending heaps of hours outside exploring the great outdoors.

A few of the fantastic things about dome tents are, that they are generally speaking light, making them simple to carry. In nearly all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very simple to set up. In good weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are the most commonly seen of all the various types of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in the rain than other types, allowing water to easily slide off the sloped walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, resulting in the water pooling on the top of the tent. The simplest dome tent should have a square footprint, sloped walls a couple of poles which cross in the middle of the roof. Because of the way they are made, it is generally considered that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Down below, you can check out a list of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Limelight can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Gives you a place to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is good to see Marmot has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is easier to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 68D Polyester Taffeta 190T F/R, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to tears and punctures. Also, the material has a 2000 mm waterproofing rating, which is very good for most circumstances.
  6. Includes FootPrint. It is quite rare to see a footprint included with the tent. It is suggested to always use a footprint, so not having to pay extra for one is a bonus.
  7. Breathable. The Limelight's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the summer.
  8. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  9. Other sizes are available. Marmot has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  10. Low price. It is a great deal for a 4 person dome tent that provides this much space. Not a lot of tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $408

CONS

  1. Not spacious. With a floor area of 52 square feet, the Limelight 4 is smaller than quite a lot of the 134 other 4 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 10% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some campers.
  3. No windows. With no windows it is not simple to keep the tent cool on a hot summers night.
  4. A little heavy for backpacking. Even though the Limelight 4, looks like a small tent, it is not ideal for backpacking as it weighs 8 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  5. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of things to be positive about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.8 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.8 STARS

Marmot's Limelight 4 tent is perfect for bicycle & motorbike camping. There are a couple of other cool things not noted above which, we found and liked, while researching the model: Super-sized double door and rear D-shaped door lead to two side vestibules to keep all your gear dry, Zone Pre-Bend Construction Creates Vertical Walls, More Roomy Sleeping Area and Greater Head Room and Lamp Shade Pocket Securely Holds Your Headlamp to Provide Ambient Light.

With wonderful ratings, a few reviews and a center height of 4' and 52 square feet of space to play with, this tent is like your own modest flat. It will allow you together with 2 other people to spend some real quality time enjoying nature. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can check out above.

If you came to this page looking for an endorsement on this actual tent, we think, it will make for a good buy. If you just happened to land on this website while looking for a brand new tent having not heard of this manufacurer or this tent model previously, it is perhaps a good thing to look at a few more similar tents.

Value for money: In so much as value for your money, this tent is more competitive than the average cost of all the one hundred and fifty-four, four-person tents we have taken a look at, this by itself does not make it good value for money. One should also think about other things in-depth, as we do with each tent.

When we tally up the overall score of an individual tent, we reflect upon loads of things, finding things where the tent could outdo other comparable tents and where it is coming up short. In this case, with an overall score of 4.8 and the price details above, we can recognize that with a price of $408 Marmot's Limelight 4 is a decent buy and cheap when compared with comparable tents.

The overall score shows that the quality and size the tent offers were not skimped on to finish up with a price tag significantly below the average price for comparable tents. It should make a fantastic choice for most people searching for a comfy three-season dome tent to go camping in, that will serve you well for years to come.
