Tent Set Up

Quick to set-up with the Color Coded "Easy Pitch" Clips and Poles

Green Thumbs Up Logo

Summary: Favorable Reviews

Campers who purchased the tent mentioned: That it is very lightweight! It is a quality constructed tent, and the 4p version was a good fit for a 6' person and two dogs, one of which is a Great Dane, comfortably with room to spare. After purchased this tent for my weekend backpacking trips and I don't regret it one bit. It was straightforward to set up and has plenty of room inside for someone 6 foot 330lbs, along with his wife, and their gear. It packs well on top of a backpack, and the 6lbs of weight is not that heavy for short weekend trips. Well built and engineered. It comes with a great rain flap and is very robust in its build. The canopy that stores items overhead is useful. A perfect 3-season tent. Super easy to put together with one person in 3-5 minutes.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Campers who bought the tent noted: The interior space is enough for sleeping, but there's not much room for anything else besides your sleeping essentials. They also wished it had a vent in the fly. One reviewer mentioned that the gear loft is not included with the tent even though the description says so on Amazon. One of the pockets was not well sewn. The footprint that came with this tent needs to be fixed to the ground separately. If you hold it with the tent poles, it will be quite loose. Secondly, it would be better if the door was not vertical angled would be better.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Limelight 3 has two doors and a peak center height of 4' 0, which is a tiny bit smaller than the average height of the 139 various 3 person tents we have studied. With 42 square feet of space inside, it is significantly smaller than some other 3-person tents, and it would be quite cramped for you and, up to two other campers throughout the 3-seasons, this tent is recommended for use in, smaller tents similar to this one can make a fantastic choice for people that enjoy spending plenty of hours outside exploring the great outdoors.

Many of the cool points about dome tents are, that they are under normal circumstances not too heavy, making them simple to carry. In near all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In calm weather, you could do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are the most common of all the different sorts of tents you will find when camping. They tend to do better in storms than other types, allowing rain to easily slide off the slanted sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, resulting in the rain pooling on the top of the tent. The simplest dome tent should have a rectangular floor, slanted walls a couple of poles which converge in the center of the roof. Due to the way they are made, it is typically considered that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Below you can find a list of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Limelight can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Gives you a place to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is nice to see Marmot has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 68D Polyester Taffeta 190T F/R, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to tears and punctures. Also, the material has a 2000 mm waterproofing rating, which is pretty good for most circumstances.
  6. Includes FootPrint. It is not often we see a footprint included with a tent. It is suggested to always use a footprint, so not having to buy one is a plus.
  7. Breathable. The Limelight's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the summer.
  8. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  9. Lots of Positive Reviews The Limelight 3 has Tons of excellent Reviews
  10. Other sizes are available. Marmot has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  11. Low price. It is a great purchase for a 3 person dome tent that provides this much room. Not a lot of tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $322

CONS

  1. Not spacious. With a floor area of 42 square feet, the Limelight 3 is smaller than quite a few of the 139 other 3 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 6% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative factor for some people.
  3. A tad heavy for backpacking. Even though the Limelight 3, looks like a small tent, it is not ideal for backpacking as it weighs 6 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  4. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have heaps of things to rave about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.5 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.5 STARS

Marmot's Limelight 3 tent is really good for backpacking. There are a couple of other points not already mentioned above which, we noticed and liked, while reviewing the model: Super-sized double door and rear D-shaped door lead to two side vestibules to keep all your gear dry, Zone Pre-Bend Construction Creates Vertical Walls, More Roomy Sleeping Area and Greater Head Room and Lamp Shade Pocket Securely Holds Your Headlamp to Provide Ambient Light.

With positive ratings, quite a few reviews and a peak height of 4' and 42 square feet of space to play with, this tent is like your own miniature home away from home. It allows you to spend some delightful time exploring the great outdoors. We found a decent amount of positive points about the tent that you can check out above.

If you came to this website looking for recommendations about this particular tent, our view is, it should make for an excellent buy. If you simply happened to arrive on this website while browsing for a new tent having never heard of this manufacurer or this tent model previously, it is probably a good idea to check out a few other comparable tents.

Value for money: When contemplating value for your dollar, this tent is a lot cheaper than the standard cost of all the one hundred and ninety-three, three-person tents we have taken a look at, this just by itself does not make it excellent value for money. We also need to take into account other things in-depth, as we do for every tent.

When we measure the overall score of a tent, we study loads of areas, searching for things where the tent could beat out other similar tents and where it is not quite as good. On this occasion, with an overall rating of 4.5 and the price details above, we can identify that with a price of $322 Marmot's Limelight 3 is a good buy and astonishingly cheap in comparison with comparable tents.

The overall score shows that the quality and space the tent gives you were not compromised to arrive at a price tag undoubtedly below the usual price for similar tents. It will make an excellent choice for most people looking for a comfortable three-season dome tent to camp with, that should serve you well for years to come.
