Tent Set Up

Pretty easy to setup, but with all the poles it might be a bit confusing for the first time or 2.

Summary: Favorable Reviews

Campers who purchased the tent said: They couldn't ask for a better tent. It sets up in just a few minutes and has a fair amount of ceiling height along with an easy to use rain fly. The tent is spacious for two people, which is excellent when considering all the extra gear needed in the winter. Set up was a breeze, along with the break down both were a breeze. Withstands high winds, excellent ventilation, plenty of pockets to stash small gear in, and an excellent sized vestibule.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

People who bought the tent reported: It is quite heavy. The ventilation is not the best when the fly is fully closed. It can get hot in the sun, so do not forget to open the vent on top of the fly! A little complicated to set up in -20C temperatures with snowshoes on but worth the effort. Heavy in an already heavy winter backpack.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Thor 2 has two doors and a maximum center height of 3' 7, which is a tiny bit less than the average height of the 204 other 2 person tents we have examined With 38 square feet of room inside, it is a little bit larger than some other 2-person tents, and it should accommodate you and, another camper all through the 4-seasons, this tent is suggested for use in, smaller tents like this one often make a really good choice for campers that welcome spending plenty of time outside their tent getting some air.

A few of the great things about dome tents are, that they are under normal circumstances not too heavy, making them easy to carry around. In most all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very easy to set up. In calm weather, you could do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are easily the most common of all the various types of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in storms than other types, allowing water to roll off the sloped walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, resulting in the rain pooling on the roof. The most basic dome tent should have a square footprint, slanted walls two or more poles which converge in the middle of the roof. Due to their construction, it is typically thought of that they are ideal for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Beneath you can check out a list of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Thor can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Affords you somewhere to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is nice to see Marmot has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 70d 100% Nylon W/R F/R, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to rips and punctures. Also, the material has a 10000 mm waterproofing rating, which is pretty good for most circumstances.
  6. Great Ratings The Thor 2 has some of the best ratings of all the tents on optimumtents.com
  7. Other sizes are available. Marmot has also made this model available in Other Sizes.

CONS

  1. Lacking in Headroom. With 8% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some campers.
  2. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, The floor may be made of 70d 100% Nylon W/R F/R but it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, more so on rough terrain.
  3. A little heavy for backpacking. Even though the Thor 2, looks like a small tent, it is not ideal for backpacking as it weighs 10 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  4. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have many things to be positive about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.7 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.7 STARS

Marmot's Thor 2 tent is ideal for base camp and expeditions. Here are a couple of other things not mentioned above which, were noticed and liked, while reviewing the model: Bomber construction, and two big vestibules with a minimal sacrifice in weight, the Thor 2P is a classic mountaineering tent., Seam Taped Catenary Cut Floor and Light-Reflective Points and Internal Guy System and Field Repair Kit.

With excellent ratings, and a peak height of 3' and 38 square feet of area to sleep, this tent is like your very own little home away from home. It will enable you to spend some delightful moments exploring the great outdoors. We found a decent amount of positive points about the tent that you can check out above.

If you came to this page looking for suggestions about this actual tent, we think, it will make for an excellent acquisition. If you just happened to arrive on this page while browsing for a new tent having never heard of this manufacurer or this tent before, it is possibly a good idea to look at some other comparable tents also.

Value for money: As far as value for your money, this tent is a more pricier than the usual cost of all the two hundred and eighty-five, two-person tents we have taken a look at, this by itself is not a negative thing. One should also take a look at other factors in-depth, as we do with every tent.

When we tally up the overall score of a single tent, we look at plenty of data points, searching for things where the tent could shine against other near-identical tents and where it is lacking. On this occasion, with a total score of 4.7 and the price knowledge above, It is simple to recognize that with a price of $819.00 info_outline Marmot's Thor 2 is a very good bargain even though it could be perceived as very costly when set side by side with comparable tents.

Its overall score shows that the quality and capacity the tent provides make it an excellent buy for campers looking for a tent that will be used for plenty of years. It is also worth thinking about the fact that it is reduced by 4% from the manufactures suggested price. It could make a good choice for nearly all campers searching for a comfortable four-season dome tent to go camping in, that should serve you well for years to come.
