Summary: Favorable Reviews

Currently, there are no campers who have used the new 2020 Tungsten Ultralight 2p tent and written a review yet! The build and style are nearly identical to the older Tugsten UL 2 Model, which has lots of reviews. Campers who purchased the tent said: It was the best tent ever. The rain fly with its vestibule worked well in blowing rain and hail, keeping the inside of the tent dry. The set up was easy and quick for one person. The tent is spacious inside. The size to weight ratio of the tent was excellent. For as light as it is, I was expecting something smaller. The dual doors and vestibules were a convenient feature for keeping the tent clutter and dirt free.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Currently, there are no people who have used the new 2020 Tungsten Ultralight 2 person tent and written a review yet! The build and style are nearly identical to the older Tugsten UL 2 Model, which has lots of reviews. People who bought the tent mentioned: The fly touches the inner tent in strong winds and rain, resulting in condensation. Drips of water were noted at the vent on the leeward side while we were brushed by tropical storm Alberto's rainbands. Poles are not the strongest.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Tungsten 2 Ultralight 2020 has two doors and a maximum center height of 3' 6, which is a little bit less than the average height of the 215 other 2 person tents we have examined With 32 square feet of space inside, it is a little bit smaller than some other 2-person tents, and it could be a little cramped for you and, another camper all through the 3-seasons, this tent is approved for use in, smaller tents like this one generally make an excellent choice for people that love spending plenty of hours outside of their tent exploring.

Some of the great points about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part lightweight, making them simple to carry. In nearly all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very simple to set up. In calm weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are easily the most common of all the various types of tents you will find when camping. They tend to do better in storms than other types, allowing rain to easily slide off the slanted sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, resulting in the rain pooling on the top. The simplest dome tent will have a square footprint, sloped walls two or more poles which converge in the middle of the roof. Because of their construction, it is generally considered that they are best for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Beneath you can see a list of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Tungsten Ultralight 2020 can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Gives you somewhere to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is good to see Marmot has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your gear.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is easier to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is Polyester Ripstop, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to rips and punctures. Also, the material has a 2000 mm waterproofing rating, which is pretty good for most circumstances.
  6. Breathable. The Tungsten's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the summer.
  7. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  8. Available in other sizes. Marmot has also made this model available in Other Sizes.

CONS

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 32 square feet, the Tungsten 2 is smaller than quite a few of the 215 other 2 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 8% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some campers.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, The floor may be made of Polyester Ripstop but it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, more so on rough terrain.
  4. Out of Stock. Unfortunately this particular tent is not currently in stock. It is still on the manufactures site the last time we looked.
  5. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of qualities to rave about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.
