Summary: Favorable Reviews

Based on the Tungsten UL, Campers who purchased the tent said: It was the best tent ever. The rain fly with its vestibule worked well in blowing rain and hail, keeping the inside of the tent dry. The set up was easy and quick for one person. The tent is spacious inside. The size to weight ratio of the tent was excellent. For as light as it is, I was expecting something smaller. The dual doors and vestibules were a convenient feature for keeping the tent clutter and dirt free.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Based on the Tungsten UL, People who bought the tent mentioned: The fly touches the inner tent in strong winds and rain, resulting in condensation. Drips of water were noted at the vent on the leeward side while we were brushed by tropical storm Alberto's rainbands. Poles are not the strongest.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Tungsten 2 Ultralight Hatchback has two doors and a maximum center height of 3' 6, which is a tiny bit smaller than the average height of the 211 different 2 person tents we have studied. With 32 square feet of space inside, it is a tiny bit smaller than some other 2-person tents, and it could be a little cramped for you and, another camper all through the 3-seasons, this tent is approved for use in, smaller tents like this one are a really good choice for people who like spending lots of time outside of the tent enjoying the fresh air.

Some of the fantastic things about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part not too heavy, making them easy to carry. In nearly all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very easy to set up. In calm weather, you can do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are easily the most commonly seen of all the various sorts of tents you will see when camping. They tend to fair better in bad weather than other types, allowing water to roll off the sloped walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, allowing the water to pool on the top of the tent. The simplest dome tent should have a square footprint, slanted sides two or more poles which cross in the center of the roof. Because of their construction, it is usually thought of that they are ideal for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Tungsten Ultralight Hatchback can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Gives you somewhere to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is good to see Marmot has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your stuff.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 30D 100% Nylon F/R, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to rips and punctures. Also, the material has a 2000 mm waterproofing rating, which is very good for most circumstances.
  6. Breathable. The Tungsten's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the warmer months.
  7. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1200mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  8. Available in other sizes. Marmot has also made this model available in Other Sizes.

CONS

  1. Not spacious. With a floor area of 32 square feet, the Tungsten 2 is smaller than quite a few of the 211 other 2 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 9% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative factor for some campers.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, The floor may be made of 30D 100% Nylon F/R but it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, more so on rough terrain.
  4. Out of Stock. Unfortunately this particular tent is not currently in stock. It is still on the manufactures site the last time we looked.
  5. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have many attributes to rave about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.
