Summary: Favorable Reviews

Some users commented that: This Crag Lake 2 is an amazing piece of gear! The tent is incredibly spacious and has plenty of room for two people, plus their gear. The tent is made from high-quality materials that are built to last, and the rainfly does an excellent job of keeping you dry even in heavy rain. The tent is easy to set up and take down, and the pole system is well designed and sturdy. Overall, I highly recommend this one.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Campers who used it said: I recently purchased this tent and was quite disappointed with its performance. Felt that its flimsy and unstable during extreme conditions. The rainfly did not provide adequate protection from the heavy rain, and we ended up getting wet during a storm. Although they claimed that the materials on this tent were pretty good its just felt fragile. Needs some revision. Whilst generally not bad, there are better alternatives.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Crag Lake 2 SL has two doors and a maximum center height of 3' 6, which is a little bit smaller than the average height of the 247 different 2 person tents we have studied. With 28 square feet of room inside, it is a lot smaller than some other 2-person tents, and it would be quite cramped for you and, another camper during the whole of the 3-seasons, this tent is recommended for use in, smaller tents like this one generally make a very good choice for campers that enjoy spending plenty of hours outside of the tent enjoying the fresh air.

Some of the great points about dome tents are, that they are generally speaking not too heavy, making them simple to carry around. In most all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very simple to set up. In calm weather, you can do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are the most commonly seen of all the other sorts of tents you will see when camping. They tend to fair better in the rain than other types, allowing water to easily slide off the slanted sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, allowing the rain to pool on the roof. The most straightforward dome tent will have a square floor, slanted walls two or more poles which converge in the middle of the roof. Due to the way they are made, it is typically thought of that they are best for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Below you can see a list of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Crag Lake SL can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Gives you somewhere to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is good to see Big Agnes has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your stuff.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. Breathable. The Crag Lake's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the summer.
  6. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 0mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  7. Available in other sizes. Big Agnes has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  8. Low price. It is a great buy for a 2 person dome tent providing this much space. Not many tents available on the market give this level of quality for only $349.95

CONS

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 28 square feet, the Crag Lake 2 is smaller than quite a lot of the 258 other 2 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 7% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative factor for some people.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, The floor may be made of Regen robic double-ripstop nylon with PFC-free DWR treatment and waterproof polyurethane coating but it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  4. Out of Stock. Unfortunately this particular tent is not currently in stock. It is still on the manufactures site the last time we checked.
  5. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have heaps of attributes to rave about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

Value for money: In so much as value for your dollar, this tent is a lot cheaper than the standard cost of all the two hundred and fourty-seven, two-person tents we have studied, this by itself does not make it remarkable value for money.
