Tent Set Up

Summary: Favorable Reviews

Campers who purchased the tent said: They have used it more than three times, and its charm has not disappeared yet. Easy enough to set up pretty quickly. The MtnGLO is more than a gimmick, it works well during night time. Great item exactly as described. Never a problem even after using it five times now. The rainfly's waterproofing worked well, with no leaks or moisture inside at all. Easily survived heavy rain and wind on a week-long trip. It is not heavy when compared to other four-person tents that we have bought before. Another family of 4 was satisfied with how much space is provided.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

People who bought the tent reported: It is not great for frigid weather even though it is a 3 season tent. Unfortunately, the footprint is sold separately. Yes, the rainfly can cover all the tent when you close it, but the ventilation is then not adequate, especially on a hot summer night. The fabric of the tent was not as thick as expected. One person mentioned the poles are okay, but not fantastic. It is not the quickest of tents to set up. Setting this up all by yourself is a bit of a challenge. It would help if you were careful of possible rips, the fabric is a little bit thin. I mean, it's not that thick. During moderate winds, you should firmly stake it down.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Tumble 4 mtnGLO has two doors and a maximum center height of 4' 3, which is 13 inches less than the average height of the 134 various 4 person tents we have studied. With 60 square feet of room inside, it is a tiny bit smaller than some other 4-person tents, and it could be a little tight for you and, up to three other campers all through the 3-seasons, this tent is approved for use in, smaller tents similar to this one can generally make an ideal choice for people that love spending plenty of hours outside of the tent enjoying the fresh air.

Many of the cool things about dome tents are, that they are generally speaking lightweight, making them easy to carry around. In nearly all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very simple to set up. In good weather, you can do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are the most common of all the different types of tents you will see when camping. They tend to fair better in the rain than other types, allowing rain to roll off the sloped sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, resulting in the rain pooling on the roof. The most straightforward dome tent will have a square footprint, sloped walls a couple of poles which cross in the center of the roof. Due to the way they are made, it is usually thought of that they are best for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Beneath you can see a list of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Tumble mtnGLO can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Affords you somewhere to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is nice to see Big Agnes has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your gear.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  6. Available in other sizes. Big Agnes has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  7. Low price. It is a great purchase for a 4 person dome tent providing this much room. Not many tents available on the market give this level of quality for only $359.95

CONS

  1. Not spacious. With a floor area of 60 square feet, the Tumble 4 is smaller than quite a few of the 134 other 4 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 13% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some people.
  3. No windows. With no windows it is not simple to keep the tent ventilated on a hot summers night.
  4. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one sold separately specifically for the Tumble 4 footprint Even though the floor may be made of Polyester taffeta, it is still better to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  5. A little heavy for backpacking. Even though the Tumble 4, looks like a small tent, it is not ideal for backpacking as it weighs 8 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  6. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of attributes to be positive about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

Value for money: In terms of value for your money, this tent is a more competitive than the normal price of all the one hundred and fifty-four, four-person tents we have studied, all alone this does not make it excellent value for money. We also need to take into account other factors in-depth, as we do for every tent.
