Summary: Favorable Reviews

People who bought the tent said: That it is lightweight and very roomy. It has the weight of a single ultralight tent. We had no durability issues whatsoever, rain, snow, wind, no issues at all. The packed size is smaller than an average sleeping pad. All four corners can be tightly stacked before pole assembly, allowing the tent to be set up exceptionally taut. Vestibules stake right into the ground, which provides excellent protection for packs and gear you need dry. Never had any issue with condensation. This thing is a palace, and it is massive but still light.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Campers who have camped with the tent mentioned that: They did not personally like the velcro closures on the rain fly. Where the mesh joins the zippers for the door, the stitching is not the greatest.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Carbon Reflex 2 Featherweight has two doors and a maximum center height of 2' 10, which is 16 inches smaller than the average height of the 222 different 2 person tents we have studied. With 29 square feet of room inside, it is a lot smaller than some other 2-person tents, and it would be quite cramped for you and, another camper throughout the 3-seasons, this tent is suggested for use in, smaller tents like this one often make a great choice for campers that welcome spending lots of hours outside their tent getting some air.

A few of the cool things about dome tents are, that they are generally speaking not too heavy, making them easy to carry. In near all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very easy to set up. In good weather, you could do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are the most common of all the different types of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in the rain than other types, allowing water to roll off the sloped walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, allowing the rain to pool on the roof. The most basic dome tent should have a square footprint, slanted sides two or more poles which converge in the center of the roof. Due to the way they are made, it is typically considered that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Below you can find an account of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Vestibule. Having one vestibule. Offers you somewhere to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  2. Internal storage. It is good to see MSR has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your things.
  3. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  4. Breathable. The Carbon Reflex's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the warmer months.
  5. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1200mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  6. Other sizes are available. MSR has also made this model available in Other Sizes.

CONS

  1. Not spacious. With a floor area of 29 square feet, the Carbon Reflex 2 is smaller than quite a few of the 222 other 2 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 16% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some campers.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one available separately specifically for the Carbon Reflex 2 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 15D ripstop nylon, Xtreme Shield polyurethane & DWR, it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  4. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of qualities to be positive about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.4 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.4 STARS

MSR's Carbon Reflex 2 Featherweight tent is great for backpacking. Here are a couple of other things not noted above which, were found and liked, while reviewing the model: The non-freestanding Carbon Reflex 1 backpacking tent is designed for adventurers who like to travel ultralight but want more protection than a tarp can offer, Large doors provide easy entry and exit and A spacious interior, and roomy vestibules make life on the trail more comfortable.

With wonderful ratings, and a center height of 2' and 29 square feet of space for sleeping, this tent is like your very own little studio. It will allow you to enjoy some really enjoyable moments exploring the great outdoors. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can look at above.

If you came to this website looking for recommendations about this actual tent, our view is, it should make for a very good buy. If you just happened to arrive on this website while browsing for a brand new tent having not heard of this manufacurer or this model previously, it is possibly a good idea to check out a few more comparable tents also.

Value for money: As far as value for your money, this tent is a tad bit more costlier than the standard price of all the two hundred and eighty-seven, two-person tents we have studied, this alone is not a negative thing. One should also look at other things in-depth, as we do for every tent.

When we calculate the ratings of a tent, we examine a lot of data points, searching for things where the tent could perform well against other near-identical tents and where it is coming up short. In this case, with a total score of 4.4 and the price details above, one can spot that with a price of $549.95 The Carbon Reflex 2 Featherweight is a great deal although it may be perceived as a tiny bit expensive when set side by side with similar tents.

Its overall score shows that the quality and capacity the tent gives you make it a great buy for those wanting a tent that can be used for plenty of years. It is also worth noting it is marked down by 0% from the manufactures suggested retail price. It could make a decent choice for nearly all people searching for an appropriate three-season backpacking tent to go camping with, that should serve you well for years to come.
