Summary: Favorable Reviews

The ferrules that they used are very helpful. Along with the fact that it serves as connectors that hold the pole together, it was also made from aluminum instead of steel to avoid rusting. Free standing, larger zippers for extra durability, and mesh storage pockets for storing gear.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Sadly, the fly doesn't have windows. Other than this it is an excellent tent.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Meramac 5 ZF FG has two windows and two doors and a maximum center height of 6' 0, which is a little bit less than the average height of the 30 different 5 person tents we have studied. With 80 square feet of room inside, it is a tiny bit smaller than some other 5-person tents, and it could be a little tight for you and, up to four other campers during the 3-seasons, this tent is recommended for use in, smaller tents like this one make an excellent choice for campers that enjoy spending loads of time outside of the tent enjoying the fresh air.

Many of the fantastic points about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part light, making them easy to carry around. In most all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very easy to set up. In good weather, you could do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are easily the most commonly seen of all the other types of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in storms than other types, allowing water to roll off the slanted walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, allowing the rain to pool on the top. The most straightforward dome tent will have a square footprint, slanted walls a couple of poles which converge in the center of the roof. Due to the way they are made, it is typically thought of that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Below you can find a list of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Meramac ZF FG can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Has Gear Loft. It is nice to see Alps Mountaineering adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  3. Has awnings. The awnings shelter the sides of the tent.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. More than one window. With 2 openings it is easier to keep the tent cool on a hot summers night.
  6. Breathable. The Meramac's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the summer.
  7. Other sizes are available. Alps Mountaineering has also made this model available in Other Sizes.

CONS

  1. Susceptible to wind. Because of its size and shape, the Meramac may not do well in strong winds if it is not firmly secured with the provided guy lines and stakes. Even though the tent is listed as freestanding in all but very calm conditions, one would want to stake and tie it down correctly.
  2. Not spacious. With a floor area of 80 square feet, the Meramac 5 is smaller than quite a few of the 30 other 5 person tents we have looked at.
  3. No Vestibules. If you want to keep your dirty shoes, clothes, and backpacks protected from the rain etc, you need store them inside the tent.
  4. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one sold separately designed for the Meramac 5 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 210D 110T Nylon Oxford multi-pass urethane coating, it is still better to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  5. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have many qualities to rave about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.2 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.2 STARS

Alps Mountaineering's Meramac 5 ZF FG tent is perfect for car camping. There are a couple of other cool things not already mentioned above which, were noticed and liked, while reviewing the model: ZF Series: which stands for bigger Zipper and heavier Floor. , We even have our factory seal the seams on the floor and fly for maximum water repellency. and Our fiberglass poles are also normally one size larger than normal to offer you a sturdier, stronger tent..

With good ratings, a couple of reviews and a center height of 6' and 80 square feet of space for sleeping, this tent is like your own miniature apartment. This allows you together with 3 other people to share some delightful time in the outdoors together. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can read through above.

If you came to this page looking for an endorsement on this particular tent, our view is, it should make for a great buy. If you just happened to arrive on this website while browsing for a brand new tent having never heard of this manufacurer or this model previously, it is perhaps a good idea to check out some more similar tents.

Value for money: When contemplating value for your money, this tent is little bit cheaper than the standard price of all the thirty-four, five-person tents we have taken a look at, this alone by itself does not make it good value for money. One should also look at other factors in detail, as we do with each tent.

When we calculate the score of a single tent, we look at loads of areas, searching for areas where the tent could outdo other comparable tents and where it is coming up short. In this case, with an overall score of 4.2 and the price data above, It is simple to view that with a ticket price of $269.99 The Meramac 5 ZF FG is a very good buy and cheap in comparison with comparable tents.

Its overall score shows that the quality and dimensions the tent provides were not compromised to get a price tag unquestionably below the average price for similar tents. It is also worth noting it is reduced by 0% from the manufactures suggested retail price. It should make an exceptional choice for most campers looking for an adequate three-season dome tent to camp in, that should serve you well for years to come.
